So i may have a small generator fetish. I have been using a 8kw for a home backup generator, but I just found a deal on a 17.5kw! Now I can run the AC and the electric hot water heater during an outage. Anyone else use this size portable generator for home backup use?

Oh and the 2kws are for the camper.

17.5 - As log as you didnt pay more than $2500 you did good.
Then IQs are old school now the GP2200o is the latest hotness. Quieter, more KW and more fuel efficient than the IQ.

BTW Bet I have more than you laying around, lol....

I would like to have a quiet 2000 of some sort for camping. Can’t make myself spend $1000 for something I’ll use 4-5 time a year. Any good deals on something that would run a small tent camping setup? ie.... fan, led lights, and a couple electronics chargers.

Harbor Freight 2k inverter is 500 bucks. I run their 3500 to power my toy hauler and know a ton of people that do.

I’d like all the positive and negative info you can give on that 3500. That HF Predator 3500 is on my list to buy for next month. Plan to use it to power my pop-up’s A/C on wheeling trips. $699 is hard to beat.

Really no negative. Mine did have an issue (self caused I think) but I got them swapped out under warranty.

It is quiet, cools my trailer with a 15k BTU AC. A few of us on here run it. For a pop up you might even be able to get away with a 2k.

So the predators are a decent product unlike everything else at HF it sounds like. They have extended warranty on generators at HF?

Guy I work with just bought one of these. He hasn't used it other taking it out of the box and running it. He said it was pretty quiet.

Just got a 3500 predator myself for the truck camper. Only have a couple hrs on it breaking it in with the camper ac. I’m suprised how quiet it is compared to a friends eu2000 I’ve used. I wouldn’t be suprised if the predator is actually quieter. Think the 2yr replacement plan was $120. They don’t really offer a warranty.

Can run a shitload of stuff on a 5500W, including the well pump and water heater simultaneously. Just don't try to run the Keurig on top of that.

You are the expert, so let me see if I got a deal. This 17.5kw has 250 hours on it, what would be the going price for it?

We bought a power horse gen from Northern tool for our enclosed trailer. It runs a 13.5 btu a/c.lights and other small stuff w no problem. We looked at a Honda before we bought and with them side by side couldn't tell a difference in db's.I think the Honda its rated a little better but you couldn't tell by ear.

I went with dual IG2000s because they can parallel (hence having two) and it ran the AC in my truck camper just fine, but they sure did rev up when the compressor turned on.

I know 3 people with the Predator 3500. Two of them are @Lankford and @Curtis_H who run campers with them. Curtis even ran a Lincoln 140 welder on the trail with his.
I was blown away with how quiet they are under full load.

A friend has the 3500 predator. I used it to run the camper over memorial day. Worked great. Only issue I saw was how often I had to refill it and no fuel gauge. It would last 11 hrs on a tank, running 15k AC constantly.

If there's a way to add an aux tank and fuel gauge, it would be badass.

Electric start and voltage & amp gauge was really nice features.

You can get an extended warranty.

Honestly I have a lot of stuff from HF, and most of it is pretty decent.

I can't tell the difference in sound in the honda vs mine, but some friends say its quieter, hard to tell though really

If filling a tank in 11 hrs is to much hassle i'm not sure I wouldn't call that lazy....geese I'd want to inspect it at least that often in operation.

I have had the hf 3500 for a few months and really like it other then the cheesy wheels I had a Honda 2k before for my truck camper but it went with it and I needed more for my enclosed anyway the 2k was quieter and smoother at idle but the predator dose not seem to spin the motor up as hi with a load I attribute this to the larger motor making it quieter I do know that the Honda 3k is rated for less decibels then the 2k is so kinda all makes sense

I bought the hf 8750 predator generator and can tell ya it's well worth the money I run a Honda on one of pressure washers and predator is def quieter then the Honda!

I have the northern tool version of the honda and it's every bit as quiet as they are. Mine was $480 out the door with a $50 off coupon and price matching they're online price.
