All you guys with Cummins 12-valves... pay close attention! Cold weather is coming and we all need to make sure our diesel trucks will start when it gets here. I just stumbled over this fine piece of info on eHow.com

12 Valve Cummins Cold Weather Start Procedures
Diesel engines such as the 12-valve Cummins are perfectly capable of starting at very cold temperatures, even if a block heater hasn't been used, provided the battery and glow plugs are in good shape.

Y'all better check them there glow plugs!!!! :shaking:

who needs that shit

1 battery, no grid heaters, block heater cord busted....pssssh

lemme get dat 190% Ether

Actually a shot of WD-40 in the intake pipe performs wonders... and probably a bit easier on the engine. :)

grid heater deletes.......who needs that crap,oh u said 12 valves my bad!lol!

I wouldn't even think of spraying my C-9 (Cat)with either!

That's not smoke! it's unburnt diesel blowing out your tailpipe and down past your rings and into your crankcase and diluting your oil.

I wouldnt either...the little kitty would probably shit itself.
That had me rolling. Think ill try that on my c15 the next cold morning to see how it holds up. Then maybe i can switch in an N14 and get a real motor lol.

Got a PSD that starts decent on the glow plugs down to about 15*. But I found out that if I use the heater below say 35* I get a few more MPG. Ther again, I only drive 11 miles to work. Not long enough to get good and warm.

SURE SURE that's what they all say

I had to hold down the starter for at least 15sec at a time, with the throttle to the floor to keep it poppin
