getting a bonded title...

I dont remember the exact steps, it's been 5 years since I went through it.
What I do remember is what it's a pain in the ass.

I can’t remember the exact steps either, but I remember an appraisal had to be done on vehicle, a DMV officer had to come out and run VIN to verify it wasn’t stolen, then you have to pay 1.5x the appraisal of the vehicle to get a bonded title. I started the process on a vehicle a while back but aborted cus it wasn’t worth it to me....although I’ve had many others tell me it’s a breeze and nothing to it, this just wasn’t my experience

It's not drivable right now. Be a few years before it is. Do they pull the appraisal now or after it's a driver?

You get a bond through your insurance company. Minimum is $5k which is $100. Then call DMV license and theft, they will come inspect it and verify the VIN. Take all that paperwork to DMV to send off for the title.

If it is incomplete (as in, no engine) the inspector MIGHT note it as incomplete, and the title would come back as an incomplete vehicle. When completed you just call the inspector back and he can give the paperwork to change it.

It isn't bad really, hardest part is finding an insurance company to do the bond, mine will for me, but he doesn't like to. You can always call your DMV license and theft branch and an officer can likely tell you an insurance company to call for the bond.

**I have done two that I remember, neither had to be appraised. But I also only put the minimum $5k bond on them.

is this the same process for trailers? i have a boat trailer now that i have the original manufacturer certificate to title it, but its in the original owners name which isn't who sold me the boat and trailer. (boat was bought in NC, issued paperwork to get title, guy lived in Tennessee so kept all paperwork and never did anything with it.)

I would assume so. Best bet is to call license and theft.

call the local DMV inspector

I'm in the process of doing on right now. I got an 65 F100 with an SC title. It had to be inspected by the DMV due to being an antique from out of state. turns out...The vins weren't readable. They had to give me a new VIN and not I'm in the bonding process.

It still has the von tag in the door swill but the original engine was changed from a 6 to a 327.

I ran into a deal I can't quit turn down. The title is a hurdle but it would be in my interrest to do it. It will definatly be a long term project with body work, interior, and power train all needing to be addressed. I'm not getting any younger and wanting another project that is more streetable than what Nellie is.
