Getting a good death wobble

On a 92 4runner. It has a SFA with leaves and it occasionally gets a very bad vibration, kind of like the death wobble from a link setup and a loose track bar. Could this just be the spring/shackle bushings? It seems like it has a good amount of lateral movement during the shaking. The wheels are definately tight on there, the wheel bearings also seem to be fine and the tires are good and balanced. The only thing I can think is that the bushings are destroyed. Ideas?

Mine did that at one time with the D44. Not sure what I did that "fixed" it, but here are some things that may have helped

1: made a trac bar
2: upgraded leaf springs to stiffer 44044's and poly bushings (may have just been poly bushings that helped)

3: tires. Mine did it most with 33" Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. (bias ply's)

It's been so long ago since I had the D44 and death wobble problems, I don't remember what "fixed" it.

I do remember someone saying to have a HAIR of toe-out (seems odd I know), but I do think it helped mine, but didn't "fix" it.

Hmm. I was also thinking track bar would fix it but it could be just the bushings. It has some 35" bfgs on there so the tires aren't causing it. I'll have to check the tow tomorrow.

Wobble

Check all your steering joints.
Check the pull on your steering knuckles with all steering disconnected, birfields removed. It should have a least 15lb pull using a fish scale or other pull gage.
A steering stabalizer will only mask the probelm.
Check your spring bushings and shackles.
Check your tires for dips and uneven wear.
