I have always wanted a Rottweiler, which I suppose is strange because I got attacked by one when I was 12, and have a few hundred stitches and a missing chunk in my arm to prove it. Still my absolute favorite breed and I am finally in a position to get one and raise it myself.

A friend of mine had a litter of Rotty puppies born Saturday night. I have been involved since the beginning, actually introduced her to my buddy Jeff (Owner of the Male).
Father is 140 lbs, very strong background, no issues.
Mother is 90 lbs, good markings, no signs of hip displacia or any other issues. No Papers though.

I am going to get one of the Males.

Any Rottweiler specific advice?
I will have the dog with me more often than not... Other than work.
Bonfires, Camping, wheeling, even my local bar is semi dog friendly. Most my friends have dogs so he will be socialized pretty well. The girl I am getting the puppy from is a Vet Tech and will be taking care of him so that is pretty well covered.
I have been looking into training but don't want to spend a fortune.

My favorite breed as well. Not alot of advice here just love the hell out of them and don't be afraid to start training early. 3-4 months maybe. I swear my rott knows 50% of the human language.

Important to socialize them early and start training early there a very smart dog but you have to challenge them or they will do what they want. My family used to raise german rotts I still have one left and plan on getting a female soon. I'm planning on getting a female from Tennessee rottweilers they have really good pedigrees and bloodlines most of there dogs are show dogs.

I'd crate train him from the day you get him. I had never done it with any dogs I've had till my last one. I think it makes a world of difference if the dog is gonna be an inside dog

I have no problem with challenging the dog. He will listen, or I will remind him how to listen. I have already been talking to some local folks about good training programs.

Definitely going to Crate train him. He will have the run of the house when I am home, maybe even when I am not home once he gets older. We will see how it goes.

I can't stand keeping an animal in the cage all day. We have a big dog lot outside worst case.

Yea crate training is the way to go, after 6-8 months my dog has had free run and never torn anything up. doesn't get in the trash etc.

Although we had a lab that was a full on retard, couldn't be trained... so i'm batting .500
