I'm going to go buy the wood to finish the floor of a trailor I have been working on for a while. I started with a pop-up camper and stripped it down. Then I welded on side rails, wired it, put lights on it, and then I let it sit out in the weather and rust for 6 months. Now I'm ready to clean it up and floor it. What do I need to do with the DMV to get it on the road?

Have to go to the DMV/HP inspector, stamp a VIN on/have it inspected. The inspector here in Burke county is almost impossible to get ahold of or see.

Do i need to pull it to the HP station? I was thinking about this.....That would be kinda suspicious to pull it in there to register it. They would know I was pulling it without a tag. Would I have to get the inspector to come out to my house to stamp it?

He will probably have you take it there. I think you might actually have to use the inspector in Morganton? I don't think there is one in caldwell? Anyway, call the DMV office there in the morning and ask to talk to the inspector...registering trailers is pretty common so they should know what to do.

Terrell Adkins (sp?) is the DMV inspector in Caldwell. He's at the HP/DMV station on 321 in Hudson, just up past the Wendys. I towed my trailer there with no tags to get it inspected. The one thing they are adamant about is that you can't have ANYTHING on it when you bring it in. Not even so much as a bag of garbage. Can't be "in use".

Very true, From my past esperience, go to the DMV on Enola Rd, ask when the inspector will be in, be there 10 mins before he is to arrive first thing in the morning. Get the paper, stamp the numbers, take it back and any HP can inspect it and sgn off, then go get your tag.

Only pull it there when you are going to get it inspected. They don't stamp it, you have to do that.

Very true, also, if you can't see your tow rig lights from behind, better have lights on it and working.

Thanks Fellas

if it was a pop up camper cant u just use that stamp and title for the trailer to get the tag it should already be stamped

It came from some family members and I think there were taxes owed on it......Free to me and the old title is nowhere around.

ok i see now u may want to get rid of the previous stamp befor u have it inspected dont know how thay are on that should have one on the toung and the axel

allready taken care of

I went to the tag office and was given a form and number to stamp on the tongue and axle.

I was told to stamp it and take it to any HP trooper for inspection. She said the best bet would be to go by the DMV office at shift change. Did that and was good to go in about 5 minutes. They checked to make sure I had stamped it correctly, signed the form and was "instructed" to make sure I remembered to get a tag for it.

that was in the fall....I need to remember to get a tag....

Easiest way to find a trooper to inspect your trailer

1-Get paper/number.
2-Stamp number in tongue and axle.
3-Load Jeep
4-Drive up 421 toward Boone
5-HP magically appears to weigh your trailer and write you a ticket
6-Ask him if he would kindly inspect your trailer and sign the paper

Any trooper can inspect it. I had one inspected this afternoon.

thanks....It's just a 6x9 so now rig hauling
