Getting older

Thought of another one. When I was younger and working on cars and trucks, I never understood the big deal about having a lift in the garage. I was always fine on the floor with some tall jack stands and jack stand risers if necessary. My view on that has now changed. Physically I am still in good shape, but I think I have gotten a little stiffer, and well I wouldn't mind a lift now a days.
And once you get a lift, you just look for ways to not have to work on stuff because you don't want to bother pulling it in and finding lift points and lining everything up.

I suppose those using Gabapentin, have noticed it causes constipation? So now you also take stool softeners. A pill for a pill! :poop:
I've been taking 1200mgs fish oil soft gels for years w lunch. Good for joints, brain, heart and eyes. They also help w pooping. Sometimes I wipe and there's nothing on the tp !

I take Gabapentin also, but for Nephropathy, helps "some" also have arthritis, doesn't help much at all. Have many issues I take meds for, but, seems the ones I "feel" it doesn't do too much. Warning, Gapapentin will keep your sticker from pecking out! I'll be 60 in a few weeks. Sleep has been an issue for a lont time, lately I get woke up with cramps in my ankles and calves. they are very bad,...Think the ankle scene in the movie "Misery" Doc prescribed lots of fluids, Do that, prescribed..... Ah hell, I can't remember the name. Also told me to do stretches, Stopped doing that because when I try to do it, it gives me the extreme cramps, so, so far I am lossing that battle.
You ever take a hot epsom salt bath? I do now and then when my calves, feet and back are all kicking my ass. I squeeze/massage my calves and feet. I also put my fists under my lower back and rock/roll my hips, most time my back will pop a few times. I always feel better after the hot soak and I sleep like a baby. Sometimes when my feet are killing me after work I'll put a small cooler that the top pops off in the bathtub and add hot water and epsom salt. I put a towel on the carpet near the couch and set the cooler next to the couch. Then I dunk my dogs in the hot water while I drink a beer and watch tv till the water gets cool. Then I take them out and dry them w the towel. I thought about getting a massaging foot spa but I've not bought one yet.

When I remodeled my home, I put in a full size tub, I still can't lay or even sit up in it comfortably. So, that ones out. The fists in the back thing, I used to be able to do that years ago. Did several things to "pop" my back, to give me some relief. But now it's different. I have several calapst discs and if I try that, it's immediate excruciating pain. Soon to get that fixed though, surgery scheduled for June 8th, Rods and fusions going in.

a lot of good point here. you try to treat 1 symptom and find 2 more. where is dr. mccoy and his little pill? i finally built a garage a couple years ago, was tired of working outside in the damp wet ground and wanted a lift. a friend put a bug in my ear about radiant floor heat, i still think that is the best part of the shop. standing under the car on a lift is nice but sometimes laying on the warm floor feels better :} getting old isn't for the weak.

It was around 35 for me...
I know not what you mean. :smokin:
I'll be 36 in August, so either the next three months are gonna really suck or I'm doing something right in life.

I turned 42 in February. Just recently developed my first real problem that made me feel old. Had a few shots of pain and some knots show up in my right hand. I’m right handed. Dupuytren's contracture is what they call it. From Google; A gradual thickening and tightening of tissue under the skin in the hand. The condition most often affects the 4th (ring) and 5th (little) fingers. For now it’s just a nuisance and doesn’t limit my range of dexterity, but I’m told there’s no magic pill or “cure” for the condition and it will get worse over time. Doc told me take Vitamin E daily to minimize effects and slow progression. Seems trivial, but that’s the first time I sat in the Dr’s office and felt the “I’m slowly dying” feeling. Kinda the beginning of the end if you were.

I was great at 50. At 53 I started feeling aches and pains the next mornin after most any work, weight started creeping up, motivation was getting less. Fast forward to just turning 61. My mind says you can do it, but the body quickly overrides that. Joint aches, stiffness, getting up off the ground takes some thought about the easiest multI step process and heavy lifting is a thing of the past. Overall my health is great, don’t take any meds and besides a bout with Covid last year, rarely ever get sick. Old age is progression of life and unfortunately, I am on the down hill slide.
As for having a lift the last 11 years, that was a must to get things done and I wish I had done it 30 years ago. One of best investments made. But I agree with @jeepinmatt pulling in vehicle, making sure centered, finding lift point, making sure everything clears starts to be a hassle..lol

On a side note, I think I have way more patience and don’t cuss at my projects as much. I try to take it in stride realizing things gonna take a little longer and I should just cherish that time.

Wheels started coming off @ 46 for me...the last year was "interesting ".
Deep gouges and broken bones have been a norm for me since 15. I almost wonder what would happen if I stopped breaking things...? If I quit bleeding, well, that's kinda obvious.

I was 42, when the cumulative effect of bad seats & truck driving, hit my back! Luckily I found a great Chiropractor, that nearly healed me. And mostly the Chiropractors have maintained my aches & pains, until this past year. They can't fixed collapsed disc & pinched spinal nerve. Now, after surgery, my pain is mostly fixed, but the back muscles may be something of a chore. I'm coming up on my 71st. birthday [damnit]!

My younger sis is about to turn 50 in a few days. She just had her bladder prolapse, had something abnormal show up on a recent mammogram and pap smear shows some abnormal cells. On top of that she just had a endoscopy and next week a colonoscopy.

I am sure the abnormal results aren’t serious but I was joking with her that she was falling apart at 50 just like clockwork 🤪

Since 45: (no particular order)
Had five by-pass heart surgery, took arteries out of both arms, and left leg) Left me with freezing hands
Right big toe gone
total of three knees surgeries, last one was a total knee replacement. Didn't go well, after a year of NOT getting better, they found lower implant into the bone was loose, but corrective surgery too dangerous to do, so, I have to live with it
infected bursa on left elbow. Worst natural pain I ever had. followed path of treatment, ended up in ER in Asheville, before they could get me on the table, the swelling got so bad it burst. Surgery fixed it, was immediate relief.
Because of Doc I was seeing would not give me anything or little for pain I was self medicating. Too many Advils and Neproxens, I had holes come in my stomach and intestines. leakage almost killed me. On top of that, and not sure if it was related, I had to wear a bag to drain my gallbladder, and eventually have it removed.
Upper GI, and a colonoscopy revealed some polyps. One very small, one a little larger, but all checked out fine.
Cervical fusion on C6-C7, steel plate also put in.
Between nerve damage all over my body, and arthritis grip is about gone to the point of opening jars and bottles is sometimes a complete chore, or, not doable.
I have the oldman skin going full blast. I can barely bump my arms or hands, and a bloodbruise (what I call it) comes right up.
Soon to have Spinal surgery, going to have some fusions and some rods thrown in. (end of wheeling? We'll see)
Shoulders are junk, Working over head is a very slow, sometimes not at all task. Have had many shots in both of them.
Getting down on my knees on bare floor or concrete is also a no go. So after getting my "almost" dream shop, I have to have kneeling pads on both sides of the lift so I can position the lift arms. I have them hung on both sides of my lift. So, after getting arms in place, raising it enough to get the tires off the ground, shaking it to make sure it's safe, raising the vehicle up, putting the lift jacks on each end, I have to sit for a while to relieve some pain.
lately, in the past year, I have been having severe calf and ankle cramps from hell. Still trying different things to get those in check.
So after decade of wanting a shop, and a lift, I don't actually use it much.
Getting old is NOT for pansies!

Oh and I have made this offer before, If you have need for a lift, you're welcome to come use mine. My crew cab Chevy with a short bed will fit, but nothing any longer.

I have to tell on myself again. A week ago I bought a roll of rope to use for hoisting my owl house up in a tree. Wednesday I decided to use the roll of rope to mark the new grass and mulch line for an area of my yard I am redoing. After finishing, I coiled it up neatly and hung it up on the wall in my garage. Sunday morning I was up early and putting the finishing touches on my owl house and getting ready to mount it. I start looking for the roll of rope. I looked all over the garage, even went back out to the yard where I remembered using it, searched my truck, van etc. I couldn't find it. I spent 15-20 minutes looking for it. My wife then comes out in the garage and asks what I am doing. I told her I can't find the roll of rope. She points to where I had neatly hung it up on the wall. :dumbass: I had completely forgotten what I did with it.

Thats what you get for putting shit away neatly.
I can't ever find stuff when I do that, but I can still recall exactly where it is in the pile on my bench.

Mine started when I was 30. Can't drink like I used to. Grunt and moan when I get out of bed in the morning. Recently had to start thinking about comfort vs. style when it comes to work shoes. I used to be able to go to bed whenever and wake up early like it was nothing. Now I am snoozing my alarm for 9 minutes thinking its really going to help me. I can't eat spicy foods like I used to, which sucks. I actually think about what it is I am putting in my body and how much.
