Ghost City of Cyprus

Holy Crap! I have been through Famagusta before - wish I knew about this place! That would have been cool to photograph.

The Turkish side of the island is a real depressing place, and a stark contrast to a greek village 5 miles away...It was like 90% poverty on the Turkish side..

There's also a spot where they carved a Turkish flag into the side of a mountain that can be seen from the capital city of Nicosia as a sort of "F-U" to the Greeks.

Trivia: It's the only country in the world with a capital city that's divided, and lemme tell ya - as you pass through the border, you can cut the tension with a knife.. While I was there, seemed there would be at least 1 shooting a month right there by one side or the other..

There's also a building owned by the Hezbullah (or however the hell they spell it) that we passed by all the time too - they go there to vacation (and presumably lay low).

it's a crazy country as a whole, but chock full of Greek history too with GREAT weather, and some KICK-ASS cars being built and others available for sale... (There were a bunch of FIA-style Rally cars around, and a bunch of imported Japan cars, it's where I got to drive a Nissan Skyline)

I have that one saved on my home comp, was going to post it, too. And why would the area around Chernobyl be "spookier" that that Cyprus town? Because at least you can get close enough to take good pics of the one in Cyprus without reading a geiger first. And Elena keeps saying how QUIET it is around Chernobyl. That's because there are no other towns a few miles away that still have people living there. Brrr.
