The organizers of the upcoming Overland Rally and Workshops at The Flats (June 9-12) have offered a pair of passes to attend the entire event to members of NC4x4!

The weekend will have all the fun of a trip to one of the foothills' best private off-road properties, along with meeting and greeting 4WD, motorcycle and expedition enthusiasts from across the eastern half of the US! Seminars will include topics like Outdoor Travel Photography, Wilderness Medicine, expedition logistics and International Border Crossings.

Now, as for that pair of passes... What, you thought we'd just give them to someone at random? Muahahaha... you should know us better than that by now... :shaking:

We figure the skills needed for an overland expedition would also prove helpful during The Zombie Apocalypse. The winner will be chosen from entrants who post a photo (required) and short description (can be very short) of your preparedness. Bonus points for creative flair, but don't feel like you have to give away your secrets.

A jury of experts will pick a winner to be announced next Tuesday, June 7, 2011.

and... remember "the rules"...

1. Cardio
2. The Double Tap
3. Beware of Bathrooms
4. Wear Seat Belts
5. No Attachments
6. The “Skillet”
7. Travel Light

... and

20. It’s a marathon, not a sprint; unless it’s a sprint, then sprint

Uh oh... I think maybe the zombies already got 'em...

Ive been drooling over this event for a week or two, unfortunately to my utter disappointment I have a wedding to go to this weekend. That said, I keep more gear in my 2wd DD than in my trail rig. All my recovery/wheeling/camping gear is carefully organized and tucked into every nook and cranny in the truck.

I just have to grab a bag of ice+ perishable food and im set for about 4-5 days. My buddies and I joke that when the Apocalypse goes down; those 4 horsemen are gonna have to come find me.

Alright, starting us off right, setting the bar kinda high! ;)

Thanks!

I'll be there working all weekend. 4WD conversion in the 90 degree sun, gonna be hot for sure.

How did I (we) prepare? Basement is full of 2 things. Beans and bullets. I got cheap protein in cans and the ability to get much, much more with a shot. Our property is bordered on 3 sides by 1600 acres of Pisgah National Forest game lands.
*The Rock voice on* Just bring it.

See ya'll there.

Good God man - what do you do if you need to... say... actually carry something in that truck?

I think I'm ready for the zombies.
1. My neighbors are all old so the zombs will go for the slow meat first and if they become zombs they are frail and easy to dispatch.
2. I make a run for the coast and hide out on and Island til it's over, when the brains run out the undead die of hunger.

3. Got my tent for shelter, best not use the cabins if zombies manage to get on island they will go for the large modern structures, but not likley cause they can't swim.
4. Fishing gear so I don't starve waiting for them to starve.
5. All the camp gear stove, grill, etc.(no pics of most gear yet)

6.Firewood
7. A good view for a long way, need to see anyone coming cause people may be just as dangerous as zombies when they are looking out for themselves.
I'm ready for the Zombie Apocalypse or a weekend in Ashville :bounce2: Rob is the only Zombie I trust:flipoff2:

haha, the spare and hi-lift dont take up any bed space, all the gear fits in the toolbox or under it, i've got about 4'x5' of practical bed space, and the rear rack hoop unbolts for taller items, she's been loaded down with furniture, trash, wood, scrap steel, mulch ect...

I do remember that... very cool!

I'll give it a shot. With a couple free tickets I might be able to talk the wife into making the drive from Fort Bragg.

And a picture of our little explorer for good measure. She hopes we win this, she loves being outside.

What a cutie! Nice setup as well!

Closing this thread while the experts make their decision...

The panel had a hard time with this one, but they've made their decision... I had to threaten to sequester them in a swanky hotel with only strawberries and champagne... we all know zombies don't hold their liquor well. :shaking:

The winner is...

NC_IslandRunner!!!

Send me a PM with your contact info. and we'll sort out the details.

I do appreciate all the entrants playing and hope the rest of you will consider going up to the Flats, anyway... The U-Joint Off Road guys will be converting a van to 4wd, there will be interesting courses to check out and rigs to see. There's also a guest speaker, a woman who drove from London to Katmandu in the 60s and lived to tell it!

Remember, discount code "NC4x4" will give you 20% off your day pass to the Overland Rally and Workshops!
