Went yesterday and picked up my new glasses. These are the ones for work. Safety glasses with side shields. nice to see things more clear, but until I get used to them, a real pain. Yeah, I am old and they are bi-focal. I payed out of pocket to get the ones without a line.
So next is my everyday glasses. That's where my question is.
What I want in glasses is:
No line bi-focal
anti glare
transitional, don't want to have to keep up with two pairs and can't stand the sun on a bright day
I went to Lens-crafters and with the 25% off it was gonna run me $550! the on line 50% off on just the lens, was even more.
I already have the examine and prescription so that parts done.
Is there somewhere that you can get glasses at a decent price? I mean,..........that's a lot of Jeep parts!
I have VSP. Leslie just got hers(ordered, be here soon) and they were just under $300, including examine.
 
I hate to say it, Walmart? I get contacts and glasses at the one near me in their vision center. Prices seem to be pretty good. I don't think there's a little Chinaman in the back making my lenses.:confused:
 
Just a FYI, transitions don't work worth a flying fuck while driving, and makes driving on a sunny day shitty.
 
rich, a little OT, but how do you like lasik? i think im going to get it in the next 2-3 years
 
most windshields of the newer cars have a built in uv filter/protectant whatever in them, and the transitions need the UV light to make the change. the windshield blocks the required amount to make them change
 
correct the windshield blocks the UV needed to turn the glasses.. I've been wearing transition lesnse for at least 15years now, the new ones are definitly better and hold up longer.. The old ones would sorta stay lightly tinted after a while (which i didn't mind)

Also I spent some $ a few years back for some nice titanium frames, They have actually lasted me over 5 years, I've had the script changed and they have to send them out vs cutting them in house but they ended up paying off in the long run.
 
I guess it's a little late to ask now - but are contact lenses out of the question? These days you can get extended wear disposables very cheaply.

LOVE it. YMMV, but I was 20/20 and 20/15 the next morning after the "Custom lasik". Everyone will respond differently, my only downsides are that I can't focus as well very close, (like less than 6"), and my night vision seems to be more sensitive to light than it used to be.. (oncoming headlights are more annoying now)

Custom wasn't cheap, but my eyesight wasn't an area I was willing to cut corners..

My vision wasn't that bad - I had an astigmatism in both eyes, and was a 1.25 diopter, but the results are basically the same even for those with much worse vision, they just appreciate it even more..
 
I would be worried about the close up sight... I am the only one at the store that can read the numbers on the drill bits... I can see cracks in metal where others can not.. I can read find print without squinting!!! That is the only thing holding me back on getting Lasik

That's what "reading glasses" (my mom calls 'em "cheaters") are for.
As it is now, you have to wear glasses all the time, this make it just "as necessary".

Exactly. I'd rather not wear glasses 95% of the time and need something cheap for that other 5%, rather than the other way around.
Annnnnd, it's quite a bit easier to get some 'wheeling' glasses when they don't have to be Rx. (I mean something durable, cheap, and very form fitting to the eye)

Anyway, this is quickly going off topic.. Chip- everything that was said about transitions is right on, and why I was very disappointed.
 
I really don't think that contacts are an option for me. I can't stand anything in my eyes. Don't even like eye drops. My older sis had the lasik, but she had been wearing glasses since Jr High School. If the transitions won't change in the car, that's an issue. I may have to opt for a pair of perscription sunglasses, without the bifocal.
