GM LS 6.0 Bare Aluminum Block: What's it worth?

The title says it all. I've been wanting to build a 6.0 LS motor for some time. Found a bare block with some various (unnamed) parts so all I can really put a value on is the block itself. No rotating assembly, no heads, just the block.

What's it worth? 200? 300?

I paid $200 for a bare LS1 block, was clean (hot tanked), cylinders weren't trashed (actually only needed a hone/cleanup). I got a good deal, but a 6.0 iron block would be worth less.

That's not at all true. A bare, iron block will get 500-600 bucks all day. Most people making BIG power or putting boost to it are going to want iron blocks and an aftermarket block starts around 1600 bucks and goes up from there...that's what has driven up the price.

If I needed one, I'd give 200-300 for an aluminum block and not feel too bad about it.

I can get 6.0 truck blocks for 200 or less. Complete running 6.0 Iron block motors with harness and computer for 1000-$1200 (the 317 or 035 heads can make some power with porting/milling). There are waaayyyy more 6.0 iron blocks out there then aluminum. Yes the stock Iron blocks are going to be stronger than the stock aluminum blocks, but that only comes in to play when you are above ~900-1000 hp ( won't have any issues with any less power on a stock AL block, hell stock bottom end will almost hold that power with right tuning) ... Not a lot of people are running that kind of power and most of the guys I know that do have that kind of power have the money and are more concerned about the weight. I wouldn't come anywhere close to paying 5-600 for a bare iron 6.0 block.

I'm glad you can find them that cheap. I damn sure can't and the last two I sold fetched me 550 bucks a piece. I wouldn't pay that for one, but I'll definitely sell them for that
