I know we have some guys here with advanced educations and some guys around my age still going through school, and I currently have the idea I want to get my masters in a business field. I never had to study in college, but I figure that's a terrible approach for the GMAT. So I'm wondering if any of you have found a particular source of information or study guide any more helpful than any others.

Secondly, my plan was always to get my 150 hours and then take the CPA exam(s). Well, I have my 150 hours, but after a couple internships, I realized I couldn't stand public accounting. I have a dual major in Accounting and Finance with minor in International business. So I'm looking at suggestions of a particular focus or business field to try and get my masters in. As I said earlier, I have my 150 hours, so a MAcc is outta the question. It seems like everyone and their brother is going back for an MBA. So any tips or advice are welcome.

I realize this is a 4x4 site, but you guys all seem to give good advice and have been around the block a time or two. Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated.

I took the GMAT last year. Was a little nervous about it, considering I had been out of school almost 7 years at that point. I used this book to prepare. It helped a lot!

You should also register at MBA.COM. Once you register, you can download some practice tests (actual copies of the GMAT from previous years). Whatever you do, be sure to study/practice on the computer. The test is online and timed... so it really helps to get some practice with that format before you take the real thing.

As for business graduate programs... I have a BA in Communication and I work in nonprofit. I chose to do an MBA because its kinda like the "duct tape" of business degrees. It covers a bit of everything.

I just spent time looking over the different books at Barns and Noble and purchased one. I used it a little to learn the format of the test and thats about it. Just take it and see what happens. If it hasn't been too long since school, you may surprise yourself, I know I did when I took it.

Registering at MBA.com was a good suggestion as it helped me as well

Yep, go for the MBA, good all around degree

Don't get a PhD.
Worthless.

Wasn't planning on it. I was pretty much doing it for the piece of paper. Used to be a 5th grade education was good. Then some high school was good. Then graduating high school put you on the fast track. Then in the 90's and early 2000's it seemed like a college degree was the ticket. Now recently, seems like a Masters is what you need to stay ahead of the game.

I might be completely wrong, but the places I've worked, it seems like all the people in power have a masters from somewhere in something...doesn't seem to matter what it is.
