Well we finally moved from the armpit that is Charlotte and rented a house in Kannapolis that is in a very established neighborhood that is super quiet. This place has a great yard ( front and back ) for the kids/dogs to play in. There is a church right behind out house that we could walk to if we wanted, gas station right around the corner that could be walked to. The house is a 3 bedroom 2 bath ( master bath is getting remolded by owners atm ), giant living room, good size kitchen for ma lady. It' only $650 a mo so only 50 bucks more than what we were paying so that is awesome. The only real downside is driving 45min to and from work. Of course I am currently looking for employment up there so I don't kill my self in gas prices. Oh I forgot to mention the .15 to .20 cheaper gas prices. I'll post some pics later on when the cable is up and running.

Congrats man...I know your pain, in January, I went from a 7 mile in town trip to work every day to 55 miles one way to work.

Sounds like you made a great move . The drive will seem like nothing in a few weeks except for the gas money and it is a big plus that you have a job when so many are without one .

It's not to bad of a drive just straight down 85 mostly it's when I hit WT Harris it turns into in-town driving that's when it starts to suck. But, yeah the house is great it's got it's flaws and cosmetic stuff but it is an 80 yr old house ( built in 1938 ). This place is so old it has a coal burning fire place, how freakin cool is that. They have the chimney blocked off so obviously we can't use it, but, later on after the high dollar repairs are done the owners are going to let us rent to own. Once we start doing that I'm going to make it a wood burning fire place.

I once had a job 7 miles from home, I loved it. But working construction, all that is temporary. Aside from that one time, I've never been closer than 45 minutes to work. I'm no longer in construction, but still 40-45 minutes from work. We're about in the middle of my work and my wifes, and we own our house now, so we'll be staying put. I'll just have to manage.

I roll coal 30 minutes each way to work with no traffic. Mostly interstate. Be glad you don't live in a suburb of and work in a city like Chicago where 4 hours of your day is spent rotting in a car.

I view my commute as time by myself where I can prepare for work or decompress.

No fawking way I would waste my life doing that.

Fawk 45 mins in my stop and grab a coffee in the morning or beer in the afternoon distance.

Nothing like an hour and a half commute.

I had the opposite happen to me. I went from a 35 min communte one way to a 10 min commute one way. I didn't really mind that 35 min commute in the mornings because I had time to think about what was going on that day and kind of enjoy myself. On the way home from work though, that was a different story...I cussed at anyone I could and had a really bad case of road rage....now the mornings kinda of suck because I get to work so fast but on the way home is awesome because it take me no time to get home.....
My thing is...if the job is worth it...then it should be no problem.

I went from having a 15 commute (Black Mountain-Asheville) to an hour drive (Asheville-Banner Elk) I didn't like the drive in to work except for hauling butt up 321 was fun. When I lived in Gainesville Florida work was 3 miles away but took 30-40 minutes to get to which pissed me off more than anything

I've never worked more than 15 min from the house, 90% of the time it was 5 to 10. At one point I didn't get my PSD out of third gear and did ride the quad some. I just remarried and drive an hour exactly one way too. The morning isn't so bad but the afternoon after being in the hot shop all day wrenchin and fabbin puts me to sleep.

But the new family out on the back porch with nuthin but trees a field and acreage as opposed to a 3/4 acre lot makes it all worth while.

Exactly, I have to call my mom, sister, or wife a lot of evenings on the way home, especially after time change and it's dark at 530pm.

My commuete is about 30 mins and I like it, in the AM I listen to teh radio and get caught up on the news etc, start thinking asbout the day's work, and in the afternoon its decrompression time, I walk out all stressed and head going 100 mph, and get home just happy to see the wife & kids.

45 mins hell, theres days i spend 10-12 hours a day on the road. dont care though i get paid for it, gotta go where the work is. i get paid for every hour i am on the road, so i like driving around on someone elses dime. being a project manager for a gov. contractor has its percs, esp during summer when the jobs are at the beach in a 350 a dollar night hotel room on folley beach.
