I'm going to Uwharrie next week for the first time for vacation. My wife and I are taking the TJ out with our Kayaks to camp. Any suggestions for good paddles, camping areas or mid-range trails?

Also, do we have to register with the Ranger Station to camp?

Hey there. Dont know anything about the paddling, but Badin lake is there so...

The camping, there is a couple of options. There are camp sites, or as we generally do, camp right on the trails. (The easier trails seem have the most campin sites!)

Trails. About everything there is Midrange or less. Daniel is prob the toughest, but I have seen stock TJs run it. Kodiak Rock is tough, but there is a drive around now.

Might suggest joining us on the 7,8,9 of Sept for the CTB Fun Caravan. Family deal, group camp and lots of offroaders to trail ride with!

We stay at a private campground called 4 B farm. Its a horse camp, but the girls take their horses, and the guys take their Jeeps, and have a ball. Very quiet and family oriented, they have a nice bath house, water and electric hookups, an above ground pool, and even a cowboy church on sunday mornings inside the horse barn.
The public campgrounds are a little more routy, we even had deer hunters next to us once with gutted deer hanging in their campsite, which horrified the kids. Parking is a problem in the public campgrounds, when we stay there we rent several extra campsites for parking our tow rigs.
The primitave campgrounds are just what you would expect by the name.

All I can suggest at this point is to keep all 4 tires of your Jeep on the ground unlike someone 3 owners ago didn't do

Thanks guys, I'll check all this out. And.. try to keep all four on the ground. Not sure about the schedule, but I'll get out to the caravan if I can swing it with work.

Pick up a trail map. Most all the trails are good for stockers except Daniel and Dickey Bell. For the kayaks... go down to Deep Water... it's on the map. Just keep going past the shooting range till the road ends and turn right. We go down there often. And if you like primitive camping you will pass several nice sites along the way.
The only check-in or fees are at established camp grounds.
