Golden Mountain OHV Park in Sparta, TN was the host site for the SFWDA 1st Quarter Meeting, 3-7-09.

Golden Mountain is a new entry in the mid east TN offering of off road parks that have proliferated over the last couple of years. Having been open only about a year, the trails are still in development but the 500 acre property offers a lot of promise.

The park is a reclaimed public multi use park that contains a dirt track raceway, go-cart track, paddle boat pond, hiking trails, playgrounds, camp ground and sundry buildings.

The trails at this time are mild and wild. There are mostly dirt road trails and challenging rock areas. Think about putting the TOW area of Callalantee in Mountain City, TN in the setting of The Gulches off road park in Laurens, SC and you get the idea! Larger that The Gulches with much more of the TOW/Pull Cable type of rocks and dirt make it a fun and challenging place to ride.

There is a pay station at the entry. Fees are $20 a day for vehicle and driver and $5 per passenger. There was a large crowd, swelled by the SFWDA meeting rigs, that included ATVs and motorcycles. There is a dedicated moto cross and jump area for the cycles and there was lots of action on that track!

Things I liked:

Security for parking. Someone on duty at the pay station.
Great facilities for meetings/groups.
Easy to find, get in and out of.
Good challenging, technical crawling type sections.
Beautiful scenery.
Trail map and trail signage.

Things that could be better:

Rest rooms. Availiable but not enough of them in the right places.
Showers.

Bottom Line:

A great park for local 4x4'ers. I would go again for a SFWDA meeting or something similar. It's too far to go for the facility and quality/level of trails. If it was within 2-3 hours I'd go a lot! Definately worth a trip if you have never been. I'd put it on the list if I was going to the area to wheel some of the other parks such as Wooly's, Wheelin In The Country, etc.
