Looking for a cheap golf cart for the parents-in-law. They just moved to Oak Island, and live about 6 blocks from the beach... all the neighbors have one.
They don't exactly have a lot of cash, and we don't see the need for anything fancy. A fixer-upper project for our nephew or somebody would be fine.

Suggestions?
How does something like this fare deal-wise?

Dylan W had one for sale a while back.

Seems like you can get decent ones down here for about $1200 all day. Gas is generally faster, electric might be more reliable and less hassle for them. 36v is quicker than 24. I rode the slowest cart in the world the other weekend. It felt like the batts were dying, but it just came off the charger and they were supposedly new. Just a base-model cart. There's cart junkyards around here, too, I think. That's about the extent of my knowledge. Oh, and get one with a back seat. You may not need it all the time, but when you do, it will piss you off if you don't have it!

clubcar has aluminum frame and uses a kawasaki motor.....E-z go is cheap steel so they are prone to rust and have cheap robbins motors.

some beaches wont allow gas operated just something to think about.

a $700 yamaha is an awesome deal. not sure what the frame is made out of though.

thats what I'm thinking - but who knows what "blown rear" means lol, plus it needs a body etc.

That's one heck of a project. I'd recommend electric. I've had both. I now have a 48v club car and like it very well. It has a speed code 3 in it and will run about 19 MPH.

They just moved to the beach and have no money? just wondering

I'm sure you could fashion a new top out of an old 4-runner top you pick up off c-list.
C-list? How about the one sitting in my back yard. It hasn't been used in 2 years anyway :D. Hm, yet another chop-top project to add to my list?

Just retired. He was a small time architect and she a teacher, living off SS & a meager retirement for now but looking for new local work part time... Just not a whole lot of cash flow... They scored a deal on a rental b/c the developer couldn't fill the homes.

Bicycle would be cheaper.

have cheap robbins motors.

Robin is FAR from a "cheap" motor. It is made by Subaru, is one of the oldest motor lines out there in the world and damn good. I dont know shit about golf carts, but there is a portable generator sitting in Greenville I know of with 11,000 hours on its 3rd end with the original Robin rocking along....

just meant to convey that robbins is not the preferable motor when it comes to golf carts.

maybe not but i wonder why. they run forever in industrial applications...speeed maybe?

I went down to friend of mines farm in SC recently and he said they go from place to place on their golf carts that it was faster and they had highway usage stickers on them, well i was really impressed!!! he had a big orange gas one he had built a Briggs engine for, well by the GPS it was 56mph!!!! he said we we have to slow down when we meet any LEOs b/c they frown on those kinds of speeds haha i kinda understand tho.....

maybe get one with the crappy Robbins motor and put a briggs in it!!

Im working on a SC golf cart permit for a "home built" gold cart...never mind the XP plastic and badging ;)
