So. We got a 2001 Grand Cherokee at a pretty good price earlier this year, we needed a 4x4 and a bigger vehicle for the 2 youngins... We have been slowly fixing little bits and pieces that were wrong over the last few months, learning how to do it ourselves. But here is the major issue, that we might need a little help with...

The Defroster/AC works, although not exactly.. . correctly... Pulled the codes, seems to be something called a Blender door? Involves taking the whole dash apart and the local shop is telling us minimum of $1200. I'm pretty sure it's something we could figure out. But, is there a youtube channel or a video or something somewhere that any of you gurus could recommend to get us through the process? I'm not sure what to search for (how to word it) or who the best person might be to follow for this sort of process.

Google heater treater. Blend door blends cold air from th AC and warm air from the heater core. Common failure on the Grand Cherokees, it happened to ours. When I bought the part, it came with a Dremel tool blade to cut thru the duct so you can replace without removing dash.

I did this to my wife's wj a couple years ago. Held up well. I cut the hole in the heater core with a large soildering iron This way there was no cleanup. Pretty simple to do. Installed it in about an hour.

And this is why I come to you guys before I tear stuff apart... :D I would have had the whole thing tore apart and cursing at it...

THANK YOU!!

I wish I had kept track over the years, but I know nc4x4 has saved me thousands of dollars and tons of headaches.

Just did a 01 grand Cherokee heater core today. 5 leisurely hours. Thought the service manual lied about only having 13 bolts/nuts retaining the dash but it was actually about four plastic clips holding it in. Four across the windshield, a nut up behind steering column, two at each A pillar, two on the passenger side into the HVAC box, two at center behind the center console. If I had realized that, I would have saved almost an hour. Oh and if the heater core leaks at the core it will only dump on the floor due to how the HVAC housing was designed. Good and bad. You'll know it leaks but will definitely get into the carpet.i was surprised to find only three bolts hold the HVAC box in after the dash is out, two nuts inside on the bottom and one from the engine compartment. Why on earth did they not put an access panel considering the way the core is installed from the back of the HVAC housing!?! SMH.
