So I'm going to buy my dad a chainsaw for Christmas and I don't know ANYTHING about them. Can someone recommend a good brand or model in the $200 or less range? Mainly chopping up fallen trees in the yard, probably won't be used but a couple of times a year. I don't want anything thats going to have starting or idling issues...preferably something thats going to be easy for him to start as he has some health issues.

Any help would be appreciated...thanks guys!

Finally, gave away my old worn out Homelite; don't makeum like that anymore. Bought a MS 180c, for, I think, $180. Light weight, 14" bar. Best advice=when finished, drain fuel, restart& run till it runs out of gas. Never leave gas in a 2 stroke.
How about an electric saw; if a 100' cord will reach!

^What he said. More an more, I'm hearing pros recommend electric saws for the homeowner who's not actually tromping into the woods to drop trees. Apparently they're not the toys they used to be!

I have had a little Echo chainsaw for years. Never lets me down and I don't baby it either. It was in the $300 range.

Stihl makes a great chainsaw but there is a huge difference between their homeowner grade and pro grade saws.

Stihl has come out with there 36v chain saw its sweet but not to cost eff we don't have one at our store yet but if u don't want to mess with gas its the ticket!

STIHL . Been running one for 9 yrs, most of which I heated my home exclusively with wood. Changed the spark plug maybe twice. I cant say enough about this brand.

Stihl MS170. I have this. Got it for $203 from a local hardware shop with a 2 year warranty. Easy start and easy to use.

I have a buddy that logs & does tree work for a living & he says if you don't have a Stihl or a Husky you don't have a saw & I would have to say I agree but I personally like my Husky better than a Stihl. The performance & reliabitity are about the same I just find the Husky to be more comfortable in my hands.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys! I just got a $50 lowes gift card from work today so that'll help out! Will let you know what I end up with!

Stihl

Stihl for sure. Bought one earlier this year after one of the hurricanes to help my dad clean up. Worked flawlessly.
