just wandering what everyone thinks about the deal my buddy got on a dually chevy d60 front. we just went and picked up the axle for $700 and it only has 59K miles on it and everything is in good shape. couldnt pass it up for the price. the guy still has a 79 f350 hp 60 but he wants quite a bit more for it.

That's more or less what it's worth. A bit of a deal because it's local, but that's all.

yep.
Bout right.
If you keep your eyes open they usually bring 5-700 in the junk yard.

The trick is getting there before the 500 other people looking for them.

I got mine from an 86 dually for $350 with brakes & all:driver:

the tech here is overwhelming

Ok, just for you. Some high level NC4x4.com tech

60s good
Rocks Better
Mogs Mo Better

All overkill for webwheeling

Yeah, picked up my 88 F350 SRW high pinion, complete hub to hub, in good condition, for $300. They even helped me load it. I wasn't in the market, but I couldn't pass it up. $700 is a fair price I think ($800 and up seems a bit ridiculous).

^^^ You did at my house:popcorn:

most of the ones you see on message boards like these are guys running round jbone yards buying them for 3-400 and selling them for $900.

I remember a few years back talking to a guy from Penn. that said he made over 50k/year buying nothing more than axles and selling them on the net. Said he could double his $$$ trading engines also but they were too "messy"

:fuck-you:I think that I got lucky:bling:

haha yeah probably not much tech in this thread. kinda forgot what section i was in i guess. i mean i guess i could throw some tech in while i am thinking about it. who makes the best cross over steering components for full widths? cus my buddy def has to get something other that the stock steering.

i mean i thought it was a good deal, cus like someone already said, on this board and many others, you hardly see the axles going for under $900. i mean if you go to the for sale section everyone wants $950 and up, and yeah this axle was right down the road from the house. the guy wanted $1600 for his hp60 which i thought was a bit over the top.

but yeah please tell me what junk yards have front 60's.

but i mean when you look at the prices and locations on this site, $700 was a good deal

Well NO ONE is going to give up a honey hole.

But I will offer this bit of help. If you walk in asking for a D60 or 1 ton axles, you obviously know what you want and are prolly gonna pay.

If you happen to have say a early 80s K30 truck and wreck up the front axle bad, well you arent gonna pay as much, and...they need to turn inventory.

haha i hear that skyhi, just seeing if anyone was reading this drunk and willing to divulge some info

I've never seen a D60 in the yards I frequent. They probably disappear within the first 24-72 hours. Most of them want $300 for a D44 or 10 bolt front:shaking: I was at one a couple of weeks ago and just inquired what a front third out of sidekick would run me after I had already paid for my parts, and he said $350! The exact same jackass tried to get $70 out of me for a distributor and Duraspark ignition module. When I reacted completely shocked by his price, it immediately dropped. I think he thought I was a sucker. I really need to find some better yards.

Oh yeah, and I would say $700 is a reasonable deal on that axle since it has low mileage. You will most likely not have to replace a bunch of dumb crap like spindle bearings, seals, wheel bearings, U-joints etc like you would on a crusty 150k+ mileage JY axle.

haha well when we picked it up it still had rims and tires on it and surprisingly the tires do not leak, but thats how we moved it to the truck to load it and then from the truck into our shop

yeah the few places i know want 400 for front 44's and 400 for rear 1 tons. dont need them bad enough to pay that.

i think most junk yards, or at least big ones, have deals with companies like dynatrac who buy up all their really good stuff when they get it in
