If anyone else has had the same great idea as me, to buy a floor jack off Craigslist, you've certainly realized how overpriced they are, new or used. I happened to be in Tractor Supply without my wife last week, so I took about an hour and just walked around the store, looking at all kinds of stuff I didn't know they had and I didn't know I needed. Then, when I got to the "automotive" section, I did find something I need!

Torin Big Red 3 Ton Garage Service Jack

  • Lifting range from 5.2 in. to 19.6 in.
  • Safety valve to prevent from overloading
  • High lift height

The reviews at Tractor Supply are spotty, but are a lot better at Northern Tool. Also, the same jack sells for $140 at Northern:

I've got a slightly older version of the same jack, and have been very happy with it. Hopefully this helps somebody out.

I think I have the older version too (all red with a foot/fast pump lever thingy I removed). I think I paid full 99.99 at TSC a few years ago. Its been a good jack I guess, no real complaints.

I've got that same jack, a couple years old. It lifts the front of the dodge well but it does leak down in a few hours now. But...they pretty much all do.

Honestly... I had a Torin. Thought the HF jack was better. I ended up breaking the Torin by trying to use it on an uneven surface. The chassis on the HF jack was actually stiffer.

This is the one I'd go with for $80. http://www.harborfreight.com/Low-Pr...zIjoiNzkuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk IjoiODA0NyJ9

Construction and component quality between the HF and the TSC stuff is about the same these days. The HF unit has a greater lifting range, and the rapid pump feature is really nice. I've got an older aluminum hybrid jack with it. Somebody gave it to me because it was leaking. a few hours, some o-rings, and some jack oil later and I've got a killer lightweight jack that can handle a 1/2 ton truck with ease. If I needed something more from a jack, I'd be looking at the Arcans from Northern. Killer looking jacks for under $200.

Torin has gone to complete shit.
I bought their cherry picker from TSC.
The first one wouldnt pump out of the box, Im guessing no oil but I returned it.
The second one broke 2 of the 6 caters off the first time I used it, they sent me 6 replacements.
One of those broke the first time I used it.
So I drilled the base out to put some real casters on the damn thin and no more broken casters.
But lifting a 6bt with it bent the arm. And no not the extender arm the main outer arm that the extender slides in.

fawking POS went to the landfill.

I need to get a second jack, my dad has a low-profile HF one that is great. Only time it gets used is when I am over there working on something, but it works awesome.

My jack is a Northern Tool one I bought like 8 years ago. I use it ALL the time, probably have pumped and dropped it thousands of times now. Just for a test I pumped it all the way up under my Trans Am and left the car sitting on it for a week and it didn't drop 1/4" over the week.

sheesh. did it have a transmission bolted to it?
no

BTW to be on topic...HUGE fan of the 5hernia inducing Harbo Freight orange behemoth

I don't think they're orange anymore... :(
