I've got some work to do under my car, and I feel like its a great time to justify putting a 2 post lift in, right?

So where are the good deals? I see lots of new 9k lb asymmetric ones on craigslist for $1500ish plus shipping, which has to work out to about $1800-2000. Occasionally I see used ones for about a grand. Are there any other places worth searching?

Also, is a 9k enough? My truck is about 7k lbs, but it would be nice to be able to pick up some of my heavy equipment, which is right around 9k lbs (8800ish with fuel).

I bought a 10000 lb lift back in 04. It was about $2300 total I believe it was a magnum or a rotary. Can't remember for sure. Itll pick up my 03 f250 snd my dads 06 chevy 2500 fine both diesel extended cab long beds.

Make sure its a commercial grade lift if your planning to pick up a truck. I've seen cheaper Chinese lifts do ugly things even though they were rated for the same weight

I think Atlas is the only cheaper brand that's ali rated. Might look at danmar as well. Lots of folks get the danmar portable 2 post, but for the price if you've got the space get a regular lift. I've used www.gesusa.com with good results.

Northern Tool has some good prices and some are free shipping.

9k from the cheaper companies will not be happy. My bud got one of the common 9k units and it won't get his extended cab super duty 7.3 on 37s off the ground. It tips the scales close to 8k. I've had my 87 Suburban on it and it seemed to be about the edge of its comfort level. It's great for cars and small trucks, though.

not endorsing any certain brand or model, just raising awareness of what is being sold

You get what you pay for, and sometimes it gets you.

My 10k two post lift looks suspiciously like the one in that video and is showing signs of fatigue from lifting no more than 8k.it aslo had some misspellings in the warning stickers that would leave me to believe it is Chinese but I didnt buy it so I cant confirm which distributor it came from

I have a 9k eagle im not going to bash or brag but it has had a slight seepage on the release valve since new 5 years ago but it has picked my quad cab 3500 dodge up and I do lifts and gear installs in 3/4 ton trucks on a regular basis but I definitely use support stands under each end with the bigger trucks.

The tall ass jackstands definitely help a bunch with heavier and longer vehicles. I don't want anything swaying while I'm all up underneath it!

Call me crazy, but I have no problem dropping 3,000 on a good lift. I know it's just going to be going in my shop at home and will probably only see 6500lbs at most. Hell, it might only get used a few times a month, but quality and safety are a big deal if I'm (A) picking any of my vehicles up off the ground, much less someone else's or (B) going to be under said vehicles.

Anybody know of some brands that are made in America?

I bought a 4 post lift 9 years ago. They were easy to deal with when the bushings on the pulley wore out, lift has a lifetime warranty.

FWIW- i put a deposit on the lift at the spring auto fair and picked it up assembled at the fall auto fair. Saved $ on shipping with the bonus of not having to put it together.

I have a Mohawk lift myself. It is a 2 post 10,000 lbs lift. It cost alot more than you are probably wanting to pay, but the way i justify it is this. How much is my life worth ? My shop is about 300 meters from any other place that might have people in it, but only at night and i am out there during the day. If a vehicle is on the lift i am under it. The other thing is this. How much is that vehicle you are working on worth ? I have one on the lift right now worth about 70,000 dollars. Can i afford to buy that vehicle from him ? No. If i have a friend over and his truck is on the lift can i afford his truck ? No.

I've got garage keepers lol !
I had always drooled over Mohawk lifts. Once I started doing research over on garage journal I decided they just weren't all the cracked up to be. Some were happy and some hated them. Really like the load gauge.
Of all the lifts available I've got to say I've had great service from bendpak!

Rotary or Forward. I have both and have zero issues from either. They are used heavily every day. 2 Rotarys are 15 years old and are serviced every 2 years by Fisher Pump Service.

YEP AND THERE SERVICE IS SOMETHING ELSE...BURNT UP TWO MOTORS IN TWO DAYS ..DOWN TO ONE LIFT ...NOT BAD FOR BEING TWO MONTHS OLD NOW....MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
What does that mean? Is that good or bad? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

My next lift ( 4 post ) will be a Bendpak.

I have had my Mohawk about 4 years now and knock on wood it has been great. But i am no shop just myself here and only use my lift a few times a month, but it is handy for those few times. I am getting a 4 post to change oil on. It is a pain to do the 2 post one just for changing oil in my trucks.

I have a Atlas 10,000 lb. has symmetrical / asymmetrical arms. 5 years a not a single issue. Picks up my F350 crew cab no problem. From my viewpoint a great lift for the money. Got mine from Greg Smith Equipment. Picked it up in Atlanta at their store.

Hydraulic Service Company here in Asheville is worth a call. They serviced and installed all of our lifts at my old dealership. Challenger, Rotary, etc.

Tell them Jody from Skyland Jeep sent ya.

I have had a Gemini brand 9000lb assymetric for about 14 years. There are times that it is used almost everyday and other times it goes a week or so before I need it. Gemini is made in USA, Texas I think. It has given me absolutely 0 problems. I have had several Dodge Cummins 4x4 duallys and a couple 1 ton 12 ft flatbed trucks on it.

They make several categories of lifts, some for home use, others are more commercial.
