Where is a good place to go play in the snow in the nc mountains this winter. Im going to make a trip to have some fun when we get a good snow fall.

Hurricane creek is a forest service trail/road the gravel road to max patch that area of Haywood county usually gets more snow than anywhere else in the county

By play do you mean wheel or tube/sled/etc?

No sure don't but it is almost a mile before exit 7 Harmon's den on I-40. You will miss the entrance unless you know where it's at coming in from the bottom, the top is harder to explain how to get to.
Ok if you could get me the lat&long or at least close im wanting to have a day that i can do some snow wheelin and get far enough from population with friends that i can relax

Getting away from people won't happen, a lot of people go to that area to ride in the snow hurricane creek had no one on it Saturday but we couldn't make it all the way threw take a chainsaw for sure you'll need it

Always have one with me when it snows even if im around like minded people id be happy just these idiots that cant drive in the snow and freak out. hell im from california snow is not a big deal haha

I've been up 2-3 times and one time in some mild snow. I wanted to go this Saturday really bad... I think it took us 2-3 hrs. going up, but we were stopping a lot and checking the scenery out. I've heard the area is patrolled by wildlife officers or something so tread lightly.

Also, you might as well hit Max Patch while you are up there.

I always tread lightly
Where is max patch? What is it?

here is some brief info:

Directions from Asheville: Take I-40 West to exit 7 (Harmon's Den). Take a right on Cold Springs Road, and the road almost immediately becomes gravel. This usually well-graded road climbs steadily but never steeply 6.2 miles to SR-1182 (Max Patch Rd). Turn left and drive 1.5 miles to the Max Patch parking area on the right. Allow an hour to drive.

We always take Hurricane creek trail up from 40 then follow it to Max Patch Rd. Once on Max Patch Road follow it up and around to Max Patch Mountain. You'll see parking on the right when you get up to it, then hike up and around to the top. 360 degree views.
