hey, where are some good sites to find used fab equipment. I’m looking for an iron worker. New ones are to unrealistic for me and was hoping I could find something cheaper. CL and Ebay haven’t turned up much...

Thanks

From the tittle pray more. From earthly standpoint....aside from what your trying some of the machinery auction houses are decent but for me still over priced.

Iron workers don't get sold much unless folks are closing.....way to versatile. They don't get let go often.

Nothing to add but we got a new baileigh in the shop. Awesome machine, cuts like butter.

Somebody is gonna scribble hair and a tongue on that thing.....the operator stations on the sides look really high.

I personally like Piranha and Scotchman machines. Simple set ups and tooling.

I ordered a bailiegh catalog.... they sent me a color catalog, hat, and T-shirt.... I knew they were out of my price range without opening the catalog lol. You send all that for free..... you aren’t cheap!

I’m guessing I may might be out of my price range. I was just wondering if there were anything cheaper out there....

$8500 for a $35k machine isn't a bad deal. There isn't much to fail. If you're seeking any production work, it will pay for itself pretty quickly.

I’m not in that deep yet. I’m doing some custom wood work and use a lot of angle and flat bar for brackets. Just don’t like having all the sparks with sawdust everywhere. Thought about a cold saw and other means but having used an iron worker, they are damn nice...

Wasn’t real sure of what they run...

My dad has a 25 ton Cleveland brand I think. He used to make ornamental gates and railing but has gotten out of the business. It is set up to punch holes now, but tooling is available to do more. I can get some info if your interested.

I am not a big fan of craigslist because of the scams and thugs robbing you when you show up to buy something. With that said I have actually done fairly well buying machinery off of craigslist. One thing I noticed is that if a piece of decent machinery at a good price pops up you better be on it quick or else it will be gone. You need to check like 3 times a day for what you want. I was looking for a big lathe and a nice Monarch popped up. It had only been listed a couple of hours. The seller said he had a lot of buyers coming and first one there would get it. I called my boss and said I was taking some vacation time and jumped in my truck and drove to 2 hours to Morganton. I luckily got there first and bought it.

Yea CL is crap but it has its good points too.. that said, I never meet somewhere I don’t feel comfortable, and I always carry.

There's a pirahna on iron horse right now at about $1300 but sure to go up some. Don't give up too easy as I see them go cheap fairly often but also don't expect something for $800. Also expect to need a very large phase converter if you get a machine with any ass behind it.
