I'm thinking of changing my tag-a-long trailer to a gooseneck and extend the length on it. I'm looking for some measurements for the goose neck. I've found several sources for parts but nothing yet for measuerments. Any body have a trailer they would mind measuring, or know where i can find the measurements?

What measurements are you looking for? In terms of balance most of the research I did indicated that a tag along trailer should have about 10% tongue weight, while a goose should be more like 20%. When I bought my used homemade gooseneck trailer the balance was right at 11% empty, and I really didn't like the way it pulled. I was always having to load my Bronco all the way forward on the deck to make it feel right. A few weeks ago I did the calculations and determined that I needed to move the axles back about 20" in order to get 20% tongue weight empty. I went ahead and moved the axles back and wow, what a difference it made! It was real bouncy when it was empty before, and now it tows like a dream. So my advise to you would be to pay close attention to the axle placement, and therefore the balance, because it makes a big difference.

I'm looking for measurements of the gooseneck its self, i got the front-to-rear balance calcs. already done. But i'm needing the measurements of the goose, how high from the trailer deck/frame, how far forward from the trailer frame, how far apart the goose neck uprites are apart ect. or if anyone has any drawings would be great.

i tow my trailer with a utility body truck so i had to build my goose higher but here goes i welded my uprights directly to the frame rails & thats about 6'6" wide the uprights are 5' from the bottom of the frame rails to the top of the goose from the back of the uprights to the end of the tongue 10' i wanted in tall enough and far enough back to walk under while it was hooked up to the truck so you could shorten up on the measurements i also didnt want it to hit my bed when crossing ditches give me a hollar if you need any more info 704 239 3556 :driver:

I'd love a pic of those mods, I'm considering a body for my Dodge and I'm torn between a custom flatbed or a tool bed body hybrid. I'm also still tying to find a trailer that fits the bill and never really thought about building a custom neck. I really would know what measurements to start with either. I guess if it where me I'd borrrow a trailer and use it for a reference. I've noticed several manufacturers make the top of the necks straight as oppossed to arched. I imagine this is for easier manufacturing but have wandered if in the real world this style lacked clearence over the arched "gooseneck" trailers? Also wouldn't adding the needed lenght to the tongue for the difference in hook up locations take care of the weight bais axle placement issue?

my trailer pulled great before the mods and pulls just as well now i did NOT move the axels or any thing just fabed up a goose on the end it was just a touch heavey on the tounge before and is a the same now but im in the market for a ton truck to pull it with useing a 3/4 now thats loaded pretty good before it even hooks to the trailer but trailer brakes go along way As for the custom flat bed or hybrid tool body i got some ideas for the ton when i find it i like a flat bed with under body boxes not to go below the center line of the axels and some tool boxes that normaly mont on the top of a "utility" bodyon each side for storage and to act as sides like a pickup with a headaike rack onthe front with standard pockets across the back for a tailgatethe underbody boxes i cant decide weather to go with them in front and rear of the axel or just the front cant wait to find me a good ton that i can talk the wife into leting me buy :bounce2: :driver: :bounce2: sorry for the mispelled words not the greatest in english class
