Looking for a good gooseneck trailer coupler lock. Not seeing a lot and what I do see is expensive. Any recommendations from experience? Or, if someone has made a clever lock from scratch and doesn't mind sharing, I'd be interested in seeing that as well.

Thanks

Mine's got a hole that runs through the side of the coupler. A long shackle padlock goes up through the middle of the coupler and comes out the side.

Personally, I've got more confidence in taking the landing gear crank and locking it in the truck. The whole coupler on most goosenecks drops out with a bolt or two.

I've thought about the lock through the hole method but don't have much confidence in the protection from a padlock.
To keep the coupler secure I thought I'd just tack weld the nuts on the bolts since I'll probably never remove the coupler anyway. If I do need to, I can grind the welds.
Haven't thought of removing the handle trick, that would slow a thief down.
Thanks for the ideas

I think he's suggesting just taking the coupler out instead of locking it? Or maybe not. That's what I've seen done before though. And a bigass chain through the wheels.

I mean, if someone is carrying a gooseneck coupler around with them...they're probably going to steal your trailer no matter what you've done to it.

He knows what to do, he's just bragging that he finally bought a trailer with a goose :D

Either way. Depending on how it's set up, removing the coupler all the time might be a pain.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking. The fact it's a gooseneck means most folks can't steal it (or won't want to) anyway. Beyond that, all you can do it make it inconvenient for somebody to steal it. If they really want it, they're going to get it.

I do what Shawn suggested. I just pull the coupler and lock it in my garage. It's not that much of a pain. As others have said, if they're carrying a coupler then they're gonna get my trailer no matter what.

Thanks for the comments (except the smart ass comment from Haney):flipoff2:. I think I'll pull the coupler when parked and also make a guarded pad lock latch for the landing gear handle. I never considered disabling the landing gear but makes perfect sense, if you cant let it down, you can't hook it up.
