has anyone used any of the ones that are on amazon? they start at 30 bucks and go up. thinking about mounting one to a downrigger or inline with some of my trolling stuff, just to see how many fish go after a lure vs get hooked. or just to have a cool video but dont feel like risking my GoPro.

Go big or go home!!!

Just borrow a GoPro, does @Jody Treadway have one?

I bought the Emerson knock off for $30 and it done ok but the case was anything but watertight. It eventually quit due to vibrations from the race car and I replaced it with a GoPro Hero 4. I didn't need any of the bells and whistles I just caught it on sale when I was going on a trip and wanted a camera. My kid used it at a pool party and it spent the day being tossed around or laying on the bottom of the pool. It done fine, has a few skint marks on the case from concrete impacts but held up fine and took some great videos. If you ruin one $45 dollar cheapo then if you choose to replace it you are getting into used and possibly even older new GoPro territory. Maybe run a backup safety line to the camera or something. If you were fishing salt water I would let ya use my camera for a ride along. My salt water skills are lacking.

I have a Yi Action camera. It does a good job other than short battery life. I havent tested its water-resistance yet, but It does well for a cheap camera. I also have an Activeon that was a gift. It does ok. Camera doesnt seem as good and doesnt have as many features, but it has a built in screen.

Ive used the knock off ones for scuba diving and they do great for the $. For the $, you can buy several spares if they quit working or get lost.

I've used a cheap knock off as a dash cam on the power tour. Battery life sucked but I just leave it plugged in to charger. It was around 30 bucks too. Video was pretty good though.

Worst part was deciphering the half chinglish, half hieroglyphic instructions.
