Just put a new steel bumper and winch on my 1996 4wd 2500 Ram with the V10 and the front end has more sag that I would prefer. My question is, the truck has about 120k miles on it, so should I start by replacing the front coil springs or should I just add a 1" leveling kit to the front?

I am just wondering how much sag the original springs have in them versus a new pair.

since i do not believe that these trucks had progressive springs in the front, you could look at springs and measure the vertical spacing between coils. Generally if the coils are starting to sag or fatigue you will noticed a collapsed distance between some of the coils.

The downside typically to replacing the springs, are most aftermarket springs (esp lift springs) have a stiffer rate to them; which may not be a bad idea with the added weight.

Yeah, I certianly need new shocks while I am at it

I would stick a set of spacers in the front. Any aftermarket spring is probably going to be even stiffer than stock, which are already too stiff in my opinion.

I've got a pair of NIB TNT Customs 2" spacers for a 96 Dodge Ram 2500. Would be PERFECT for your truck! Killer deal just for you :driver:
