Been heating my shop with a ready heater, works fine, but just get tired of the fumes and noise. Scored this wood stove for less than it would bring for scrap metal.

$60 worth of exhaust pipe and she is good to go. I will find out how well it works tomorrow.

good call dylan.

ive also seen a rig to drip used motor oil in them as well.

Yeah, I am gonna look into using old motor oil to fuel it. I am always having 1 or 2 5 gallon buckets full of oil that I need to dispose of thanks to my 3 diesels I have to keep serviced. Anybody used an oil drip?

(I can't believe I'm saying this...) Mother Earth News online has some great plans and discussion based around the used oil heaters. Check there.

Wood stove = win. I love em and they can do a lot of heat if you have a good source for hard woods and you do your stacking in Feb.

X3 on the water thing. We used to have a copper pot that would be filled with water. Worked well but required constant filling.

A few tips, if you feel like tinkering a bit.

Cut some holes in the top part, run some pipe through the back and out the front. 2" or 3" will work good. Weld around each end, front and rear. Now you have a hole all the way through, but no wood smoke. Bend pipes down in the back, and run into one. Like a collector on a header. Weld on a flange. Go to Northern or somewhere where they sell wood stove blowers. (Squirrel cage types are the best) Connect it and it will really make a difference in how it heats, much more evenly.

You can even buy a oven that will go in line of the exhaust pipe, save money baking stuff.

Instead of a pot of water, a pot of beans, soups and so on. The stuff you like to cook slow, does great on a wood stove.

I have saw several people do the drip of oil thing, secret is small tube and valve to control drip. Hang it above somewhere so it doesn't get too hot, and let gravity do it's thing.
I have even seen a guy once who had the oil drip, and beside it, he had a water drip. He said he used that to make dry wood burn longer, and not so hot.
Look around for a furniture shop. Lots of times you can score wood blocks to burn, for little to no cost. Quicker heat, lights easy, makes a good starter or as a source, but you have to "tend" the fire more.

Enjoy your stove!

How big is your shop? I have one identical to that one I am not using that came with our house when we bought it. I was thinking about moving to the shop as well. It looked a little small though. Let us know how it works out if you would.

Shop is 24x34 10' walls with no insulation, and no interior ceiling. It is heating now, so I will let you know how it does. It would def heat fine if I would spend 2-300 and put a ceiling in the shop cause alot of my heat is going out the ridge vent.

I just scored a free sqrl cage fan from an old oil furnace that I am going to try to incorporate with it.

x2. just placing a fan behind a stove can make a HUGE difference.

Happy to say it did a good job heating the. Shop today, even if it didn't get above freezing outside. Nice to be warm without all the noise from my ready heater.

Might also try a pallet recycling place if theirs one around.Their's one just up the road and he always has a mountain of broken pallet pieces in old crates that he's givin away.

very nice

been looking for one of those for 5 months, getting hard to find. you can get the new ones but not the same, the one you got looks very nice,we built a barrel stove an it sucks to say the least..

I own a swimming pool company and we get tons of stuff shipped in on pallets, so I probably have 20 pallets a month that I just pile up and make a big trip to get rid of them a couple of times a year. Now I have a use for them.

Aren't those treated?

nice stove, I have one similar to it in the basement, I put my anvil on it to help spread the heat. Check at a habitat restore, lowes switched brands of insulation and gave it to them. The one down the street has tons of new insulation for cheap.
