This is according to discussion I have had with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office.,
The Attorney General of state of North Carolina has decided that it would save money by NOT notifying CCW holders about pending expiration of their licenses. They have instructed the various Counties to cease sending these reminders.
In past years, the state sent out a pending expiration notice, similar to the one you get if your car or your driver's license was about to expire.
Not a huge deal, right? Well, maybe.
If you are like me and have always depended on those notifications, have always renewed as soon as notified, then the lack of a notification means that I was carrying concealed for 3 months after my license expired.
Here is the fun parts...
If you let your permit expire, then you have to start from the very beginning, just as if you were applying for the very first time. That means you have to apply, pay the fees, get the background check, the fingerprints, re-take the certification class and wait 90 days or more for a new permit.
It also means that if you get caught carrying on an expired license, your county can use that as justification to deny a future permit request.
Just wanted to pass on this latest in a long line of government bullshit.
