Got stuck on wet pavement

I took the s10 I just got going down a mountain road, and got stuck on pavement. The Firestone tires are garbage, the winch didn't work, and the front axle wouldn't engage. Once I got pulled out, and got home, Heath and I figured out the winch problem ( previous owner spilled a soft drink in the controller), and found the bad vacuum actuator for the front axle ( part will be in tomorrow morning). Now I need to figure out what tires I want to run on it.


Lesson learned: test everything before you need it.

Whatever you do, don’t get Goodyears. I’ve had 3 sets come on vehicles I’ve purchased and they have consistently had the absolute worst wet traction of any tire I’ve ever owned. Downright dangerous.

For the price milestar patagonias are sticky but expect to replace in 25k miles

Back when they made a cable disconnect upgrade. Not sure if it’s still a thing? Did away with all the vacuum lines/ diaphragm

I don't know if those are the same, but on my yj I just locked it permanently in "4wd" with some zipties. I thought I was a genius at 19 when I figured that out lol

I just replaced the actuator this time.

I would have done that, but I had no tools in this truck yet, and the battery tray has to be unbolted to get to the actuator. That has all been corrected now. Winch works, actuator replaced, tool kit put in truck. Just need to get rid of the crappy Firestone Destination tires The destination they refer to is where you get stuck.

That was the best thing ever. Dad bought a set of used Firestones for $40 for a Scout Terra...that recall came out and me and @jcramsey upgraded to a set of 32 x 9.50 Swampers for $250. So basically the only logical replacement for Firestones is a set of Swampers @UncleWillie

Until, like @Van-go you drive too fast on the hwy for the little spaghetti front driveshaft and it whips on you, lol.

There's still a hole in the floor of my CYJ to prove it, lol

Slapped my ankle through the floor too. Hurt worse than rolling down cream puff.

I put those on a couple of trucks and I like them. I've already decided that's my next upgrade to this truck. The vacuum actuator is so light I honestly thought the box was empty when they handed it to me. Real high quality item.
