I sent drawings to my metal vendor and asked him to quite me a price on a set of spring perches... 2 sets showed up today via FedEx.

more like "gotta love a local fab shop" haha (I'd be surprised if our vendors had press brakes, hell, who knows...and by vendors i mean Ryerson/O'Neal/Benco/etc)

I know that at least benco in hky and alro here in charlotte both have far nicer cnc plas/shears/press brakes/welders/etc than most local metal fab shops I've been in. For what it's worth.

fair enough, Ive never been to any of our suppliers shops but the pictures ive seen in brochures only show saws, plaz tables, shears, etc.

All of those vendors have press breaks & will do some heavy odd ball stuff. I have been working with them for many years. Other than Benco..

but most are not geared toward our type of needs, and on top of that I know at least one in the list who doesn't maximize or have the staff to get all they can out of said equipment. I've worked for two ploaces and know of one fourwheel drive vendor who have tried their "services" and they fallen short miserably. Too the point that all three came out better by doing it themselves. After it was said in done aquiring the equipment themselves and just sourcing the raw materials was more profitable. Do all buisnesses hurt themselves sometimes and often hurt others who are lesser known only because of size and visual impact to would be customers. Just my take on being well established and affording the higher end equipment at times.

That is definitely true, but one of the big suppliers with a good cnc plasma/laser and multiple press brakes should have zero problems making the spring perches pictured. Not much "fabrication" going on there.

I thought about it from that perspective too, but I've seen where they couldn't make repeat bends at basic angle much less shear multiple quantities of material with 1/16 tolerences. Guess it depends greatly on who you deal with.

How many of you sent CAD drawing and cut files to these vendors?

I had my engineer draw them
Up for me and I sent them to my guy to price a set for me. Next thing I know they are at the dock door. Never had to explain a thing.
