Remember Cash for Clunker's - where the .Gov paid to get old cars off the road.

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.

A new vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons of gas a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction reduced gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

The government claims 700,000 clunkers were replaced so that is 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.

More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $90 per barrel costs about $450 million dollars.

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $450 million.

They spent $6.67 for every $1.00 they saved.

We've been assured, though, that they will do a much better job with our health care.

We were also promised that we could keep our insurance if we liked it, and our Dr. Hard to believe anything he says. Opens his mouth and a lie rolls out.

It is also more economical to keep driving your $1500 POS than to crush it and get a more expensive vehicle. I would rather have no car payments and 10 MPG over a car payment and 20 MPG.

On the same token...at a more macro level, you produce more cars, the factories that produce those cars are going to require more energy. You think those new cars just magically show up at the dealership...nope, they need to be transported...and I can't think of very many transportation methods that run on the fairy tears and unicorn farts. The 'problem'/consumption was simply pushed to a different part of the stream. Any time .gov gets involved, it's nothing more than a botched attempt at a feel good story, never actually solving a problem and ensuring the working class will have to work harder.

That said...for anyone wanting to sign up for government health care...be careful, I read there were 500+ sites out there already posing as the .gov site, and they're ripping off your information. The only way you'll know you're at the official government website is because it'll be the only one that doesn't work.
