I searched and only found one very old thread that guessed about getting a homemade title.

Has anyone had experience with trailer purchases from govplanet or the like? I'm curious as to the title process and how much of a pain it is. Any info is appreciated.

Unless it says no title, there should be one-- govplanet/ironplanet/ritchie bros in particular is actually pretty good about always having titles.

I got a "homemade" title for an M101 trailer but it's been a long, long time. DMV officer really didn't consider it homemade, since it was a factory trailer. Gave me a lot of grief about it and was going to send me packing, sans title. Until he said my last name sounded familiar. I said maybe you know my cousin, she works in the governors office...." He signed the form. I didn't tell him that she was a typist in the secretarial pool.

Your results will probably vary by which inspection officer you get, if you go the homemade trailer route.

If it is a MILITARY trailer, you can get a sf-97 ($50) or a title ($100-150?). The title still has to be taken to NC DMV and put in your name, so it is a waste of $$$. The SF-97 will work just fine. FYI, the waiting period for a title now is 6-8 months from NC. Also, there are no trailers on GP that aren't overpriced right now. Stuff has been going for stupid prices recently, so if you buy one, you better plan to never sell it because you will very likely pay more that it would ever sell for on the private market. I used to get m1101's for $300-500 and it was tough selling them for $700-800. NOW they often sell on GP for $1500-2500+, but they are still hard to sell for $1000-1500 privately, so be careful what you spend.

Good info thank you!

Same. I really want one of those MKIII bridge erector boats now. 35’ jet with twin diesels. I’d be the king of the cove this summer with a nice sound system installed.
Yea that $8k start price sounds like a cool toy, then you see that they have sold for 27k-90k+ :-D

Yep, I didn’t think they’d slide out of there for anywhere near $8000. It’d be a cool toy no doubt. Probably a magnet for DNR to stop you if only out of pure curiosity.

Like @Tacoma747 said, everything on that site is going for pretty absurd pricing right now. A number of things I’ve had on my watch list in the last few months has gone higher in pre bidding than it should at the drop of the hammer. But, accuracy by volume may net you a decent deal. They’re still out there you just have to hawk over every listing and be willing to drive/ship to get it here.
