anybody have a guess ?

TPS on the verge of going out.
FUEL filter clogged.
Blinker fluid low

First of all the year is going to be very important

Compression check? Fuel pressure and flow check? check engine light? Start with the basics and don't start throwing parts at it.

pull the IAC and use carb cleaner to get ALL the carbon off of it and make sure the plunger moves easily. Also take q-tips and spray carb cleaner on them and clean out the port where the IAC mounts. Made a world of difference on mine and another GC I work on for a friend. Not sure exactly where it is on a 5.2 but on my 5.7 it was on the back of the throttle body. Just remove the air cleaner and use a star driver to remove the 2 screws that hold it on. Check jeepforum.com, I know I've seen write-ups on there...just search for IAC.

I'd say it's about a 90% chance that's what it is...sounds like the same symptoms.

If the 5.2 is similar to the 4.0, I'd say it sounds like the Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) too. The IAC opens at idle to allow enough air to the intake to maintain idle since the butterfly valve is closed, but closes when you press the accelerator (butterfly open). It could be sticking closed.

BTW, If the 5.2 is like the 4.0, even if the check engine light is not on, you could still have a code.

I had the same problem w/my 4.0L... I switched out the cat, cleaned the throttle body and ran a fuel injector flush and it idles great!

thanks for all the replies
it was the IAC took it out and cleaned it ,runs fine now
Also the guy i talked to at the jeep dealer said that the tps
is elec run below 1500 rpm that it has to have a full 12 volts to work properly
they see a lot of this prob around this time of year do to the cold weather all they do is change batt & .clean trottle body, see ya later
thanks once more
Rob
