Grand Cherokee dies randomly

It's a 96 ZJ 4.0 auto and will run fine for weeks and then die randomly. And will be hard to start back up. The engine will stumble some and then go silent. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't work. What do ya think?

My first Internet guess is a crank sensor

Sounds alot like a ecm failure due to the fact it's so random. You could check and see if the ecm has screws in the front cover. If so, back them out and see if it helps - if so you would need a ecm. I'd obviously recommend a bit more diag work first lol.

Check the ignition coil connector too. I've seen that a few times.. Die when hot, no start until the connector cools..

My distributor shaft had some play in it and the rotor and cap are all chewed up so hoping that fixes it
