just got a new to me 93 grand cherokee and seems it has prblems with the rear. can someone tell me what rearend this came with so i have an idea what i am looking for.

thanks jeffrey

It is most likely a Dana 35, not for sure though without a picture? If the pumpkin is very round then it is a Dana 35 but if it isn't round and has angled edges then it is a Dana 44a. If you are considering replacing the rear axle I have one in great shape I'm looking to sell. You can send me a PM if you are interested.

If it is the stock rear end then it is certainly a D35

replacing the whole rear is what i am thinking right now
symptons on mine are at hiway speeds (over 50)when you let off the gas (no load) you get a loud hi-pitched whining noise and after it gets warm a lot of grinding to go along with it. stong smell of gear oil and seeing a few drips in the yoke area so thinking maybe a bad pinion bearing. will get it in the shop tomorrow and do a little more looking into it

we have got a load of the dana 34 and 44 that came in these jeeps. we r in lexington NC if thats not to much of a drive for you

More than likely if it has the 4.0 then it is a 3.55 ratio, if it is the 5.2 3.73.
