grand cherokee trans ??

what gears does it slip between?
you could try to adjust the throttle pressure cable a little bit.
the first thing is check the fluid level and condition.
it slips between 2nd and 3rd. But it only does it sometimes. Most of the time it changes perfect in every gear.

does it do it worse when it's cold?
no. I havn't found a pattern with it from hot to cold. I changed fluid and filter and it didnt help. It acts like it dont want to change gears unless you play with the throttle then it slips between them. I also changed tps and no difference.

the band only applies in 2nd. if it is slipping between 2nd and 3rd it is most likely the seal in the direct drum.
there are things that need to be checked before you condemn the trans.
in my experience it will usually end up needing a rebuild and what you are experiencing is a common problem and it will get worse before it gets better.

i would try to bump up the throttle pressure a little bit and see if it helps.
if you look on the throttle body there will be a cable that runs down to the trans. about 3-4" from the end of the cable, (where it goes through the bracket) there will be a button on the cable (sometimes it has a little white cover on it, just pop it off with a little screwdriver) push the button in and move the cable back towards the firewall about 1/16th-1/8" and and drive it.(i usually use a scribe and make a mark, so i know where i started and can go back to it).

i figured out that if i unhook the battery then it does fine for a little bit. So is it possibly the tcm??

It always changes 1 to 2 perfect. Sometimes it dont want to switch from 2 to 3. Then sometimes it goes from 2 to 3 fine but dont want to go in overdrive until after it should. Now that i started messing with it, i really dont think its slipping. Its just not changing when it should. Thats why i tried replacing the tps but that didnt change anything
