My son has had joint custody of his daughter since coming back fro Iraq. This past spring, because of the baby's mother's antics, he had emergency custody. She continued to be stupid, and today, he was awarded FULL custody! HE does have an agreement with his Ex's mother, who has custody of the older child(not my son's) to let the brother and sister visit regularly.

She didn't even show up for court!

A great day in this family's life.
 
Good for him. Hope all works out & it sounds like its on the right track. Also good the sibilings will be able to grow together knowing each other.

Congrats. My dad finally got legal custody of me a few months shy of my 18th birthday. i had been living with him and he had been paying child support since i was 11!

im glad it worked out for your son.
 
I'm working on a similar case for myself. Pray for my daughter because she does not need to be in the situation she is presently in.

NC dads get the short end many times. It brings me a lot of hope seeing all of you single dads w/custody. Being a dad is the greatest honor, not ever considered a job. I hate my job!!
 
Times seem to be a changin' when it comes to the Dads and custody. I know of 4 right now that have received full custody. There seem to be more and more "moms" flaking out on their responsibilities.

Coming from someone who was raised in a children's home, I'm glad the courts are changing. It's great that so many Dads are getting custody of their children. My sister and I lived with our Dad when we finally left the children's home. I think Moms have been "flaking out" for a very long time, the court system just assumed the best place for the children was with Mom.

Chip that is great, I have been going through the same thing for the last 5 months

On August 1st i was awarded full permanent custody, with Child support

guess what she didnt show up for Court either, she left the state, and is living a long ways away

So for all the single dads raising children here's to ya:beer:
