Anybody ever repalced dex-cool with regular anti freeze? My tahoe needs to be flushed out and it looks like somebody took a :poop: in my radiator. Ive heard you can and heard you cant switch whats the difference between them and will it hurt to switch over? Never really dealt with the stuff.

Get the crap that says it will mix with any type of antifreeze.

IF you can completely flush it, you can put either in. But a basic flush, and the green stuff that says it mixes with all types should do

^right. if you want to replace, take it to a shop and have it professionally flushed to remove all the dexcool. otherwise risk gumming up the thermostat or waterpump(even with the all purpose).

honestly, why change? dexcool is just as cheap and easy to find and recommended for your vehicle.

If your coolant bottle is full of black sludge, your intake manifold gaskets have probably already been eaten up. Does your truck have a tick or stumble off-idle? Replace the dexcool with something that doesn't suck balls, eat your engine, cost gm billions and turn into sludge in 75k.

I wouldn't say it needs to be 'professional'
I usually pull the thermostat, and lower radiator hose, then flush both the block and radiator, can even pull off a heater hose to flush the heater core. Once you get good clean water out every orifice, you should be good.
I'll usually run some type of cleaner just prior to the drain to help loosen up any buildup.

Had to have my wife's car done not too long ago. I think it cost less than $80 to flush the system and put new in. It had the pink stuff too. The one odd thing for me to learn was that their is a bleeder screw on top of the block to "burp" the system and some special funnell you are supposed to use to fill the tank. I hate new cars.
