i call shotgun for the first ride after the suspension seats, harnesses(including nut strap), hanz device, airbags and chute are installed
 
Hell with the trail. That thing has big dirt jump wrote all over it. It needs a on-board camera mount. 2 of them, 1 on the driver and passangers faces, and another facing forward.
 
That thing is rowdy
 
I have a problem. I am using an 87 sami alternator. I can't get it to activate like a chevy. So I look in the haynes manual and find that the alt has an internal regulator, but a wire goes to the dist. This alt has one + post and 2 wire plug.. Does anyone re-work/wire these things? Or know where to find a magical dist simulator?
 
The black/white wire is the field/ign 12v+ wire. It doesn't have to go to the dist. White/red wire goes to the dash/charge light. You know what the big wire does.

Very cool. Just checking back in. I guess tw89yj knows him or something and I missed the point. :p Oh well. Looks like it will be a fun toy.
 
the last guy who said anything about this got it handed to him. But i gota ask...wtf...how do we rock CRAWL with a motor that builds its power at 10,000 RPMs plus? How are you going to keep clutches in it?
I like new ideas and its cool to have something different but isnt this just a tremendous waste of money and good parts that have a specific purpose? With eough know how im sure its possible to make this into a trick rig but i just dont see it being reasonable. Good luck i wanna see it when its done for sure. You have got way more ambition than me

Well did you read the rest of the replies? It's not really a rock crawling rig, but even so...you're multiplying two transmissions and a tcase plus whatever R&P ratio he's using in a superlight rig. Where is the problem? How much slower do you want to crawl?
 
Because it's about perfect for what he wants to do with it. Besides, people have wheeled with the stock 65hp sammi engine just fine for years. What should have gone in? BBC?
 
Why start with something thats not at all designed for what you wanna do with it.


Because it will fun, unique, light, entertaining, loud and you won't pull up next to another guy with the same setup....

In my original post i was asking how all of this is going to work as a rock rig. Thats what i was under the impression he was building it for. Then i get told thats not his intentions. What exactly are you building then? A side by side? Why not just buy a Rhino or a Razor?
I was merely asking how everything was going to work out.

Not being defensive..but let me explain something. He already owns a big badass cab truck with an LT1, tons, 42's doubler..yahdahh yahdahh. He wanted something different, he's a helluva fabricator and had most of this stuff laying around already.He'll have less in it than he would a USED side by side and it'll be different, not like every other side by side, sammi, TJ, XJ or whatever. I understand your questioning, but without people thinking outside the box, we'd all be rolling around in TJ's on 33's. The close minded thinking is also why we still burn gasoline in cars 100 years later.
 
just because the motor might peak out its power at like 10k, doesnt mean it wont make any power down low... with all the gearing he has, this thing will go in the rocks just as good if not better then a normally setup sami, or many other rigs...
