The landrover thread got me thinking about H's. I do like that little H3 with the V8 option, but, the only place I ever see H2 and H3's are; Detail shops, Harley-Davidson dealership parking lots, in front of trendy bars and strip clubs at the beach? Anybody seen one at a 4X4 related event?

Redlyners wife's H3 is pretty capable offroad. H2's I generally regard as a compensation tool only.

Well that's definitely a very cool one. But not the norm from what I observe. I'm thinking you could pick up an H3 Alpha in a few years cheap and mod it way out, kind'a like finding a cheap late model JK 4 door jeep and dropping a V8 in it.

All the guys at Windorck OHV have H3s as company vehicles.
of the ones Ive known, seem the I5 is preferred over the v8

I always thought since they ruined the hummer name that their natural habitat was on the pavement or in a garage!!!:poop: I do like the alpha style tho!!!

You got to be kidding me, its got to be a gas mileage thing with them (windrock). Bullet proof V8 would be a hoot to stomp on in that thing loosened up, I5 stumbling and cracking would not on the fun side.

I5 comes with 4.56
5.3 comes with 4.10

And depending on the year/package, a front locker is available on the later I5 Adventure models, but not on the Alphas, and a 4:1 low range is standard on the Adventure, optional on the Alphas.

That's cool, I'd still think a used alpha, straight axle the front, mild lift and 35's would be the cheapest/fun way out. Had enough IFS stuff in my life.

We have owned three H3s:

'06 H3 base model
'07 H3 Adventure model

And currently:
'08 H3 Alpha with the Adventure and luxury package.

On the Alpha, we have a 2" lift up front, 35"s tires, rear electronic locker, rock sliders, custom under armor skids, custom bumper, and a 9,000lb hidden winch. It tows my built up TJ and trailer all over the South East with ease, accelerates 0 to 60 faster than most sedans, and has been through a lot of the offroad parks around here. We built it to be a rescue vehicle for my TJ- so it always has CO2, tow straps, spare tools, and a hi-lift in case I get stuck in the TJ.

The 5.3 is awesome in this truck and between the comfort on road, the capability off-road, the towing, etc etc, it is easily my favorite vehicle that we've owned. My wife wants to race it in ECORS, but I keep explaining to her that it is the TOW RIG, and that when it breaks, we are s.o.l. However, when she moves on to the next ride, I believe I will try to figure out how to get that thing out to a race or two. Biggest negative? ~15mpg City/Hwy average.

I rented a baby hummer for a week. I felt like I was looking out of a tank turret with those short windows. Decent little truck, though.

There used to be a jerk that hung out at Tarheel all the time and spent stupid money on his alpha Hummer. He was such an overbearing ass, I couldnt stand to be in the same room with him. I asked him one day if he knew the difference between a porqupine and a pimped out Hummer? He flew hot and I laughed my ass off!

Ive ridden in an H3 before. The most uncomfortable ride ever. The door panels stick out so freakin far, and the seats just SUCK.
