Fiancee wants a hammock for her birthday. I don't know anything about hammocks. Anyone have one they like and would recommend? I don't need one of the metal stands, we will hook it between two trees.

Thanks,
Danny

Naggs Head or Hatteras Hammocks. Supposed to be really good but never owned one. I've sat in them and they were pretty nice

clarify she didn;t mean banana hammock!

on a serious note, we saw these hammocks at the renesaince fair that were really cool. they were like recliners that hung in the tree.....

cant remember the name, anyone know what im talking about?

We have bought a couple of these over the years, ours stays out nearly year around.

Do NOT buy the rope one, spend the extra money to get the fabric hammocks. The rope ones "cut into" you after laying there for a little bit.

My parents have a rope one that almost never gets used for that reason. Sometimes we will pitch a blanket on it but then the blanket moves, etc.

The Quilted one is the model we got, VERY happy with it, has faded some after 2-3 years now, but still very comfy, was out in it a weekend or so back, drinking a nice soda and watching the stars go by!

We have the stand...but sucker blows over all the freakin time since the fabric version is basically a SAIL! (I guess that would be advantage of rope..)

I am thinking of "bolting" my stand down or something to stop that.

We bought the pillow too...worth the bucks just to have one you can leave out there all the time too. Downside is that since that makes it heavier on that side, usually that part ends up facing the ground.

The plus though..is that means the bottom side gets more of the sun / rain, etc. And just takes a second to right it and hop on.

Final note...it DOES support both me and the wife...I realize you are one of them skinny people, but figured I would mention it.

http://www.eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/ These are the "new" thing in hammocks. Way more comfortable than a woven hammock, portable, set up in 30 seconds, and they're here in NC...

Seconded on these, I use one extensively.

Mine is a single nest. The double is probably the better buy, and since you need to fit 2 in there anyways...

If you go this route, buy the pro slap straps too. Its way more convenient to have these than rigging something up yourself, and the pro's go around larger trees.

EDIT*

Oh yeah, dont bother with the rain fly or bugnet, the ones ENO makes are both reportedly crap.

Guy asks for a hammock recommendation and look what he gets :)

I am on my second Palmetto Hammock Company hammock. First one lasted four years, leaving it out in all weather, taking it in Dec-Feb. The first one was still serviceable but looked pretty bad so I got a new one. I use it regularly, read daily! Personally I wouldn't have anything but the traditional rope hammock. True, it will "mark" you but you can use a towel, blanket or wear clothes. I don't find it uncomfortable at all and I like it because it dries quickly and has the traditional hammock look. It will hold my wife and I together and still be comfortable. Use quality "S" hooks of sufficient diameter or you might straighten one out when doubling up, ask me how I know :)

I have a rope hammock, don't remember the brand (but I know it is either a nags head or hatteras or one of those OBX ones!). I love it, I have a metal stand for it that sits on the deck, and I sprung for the pillow that ties at the top. I have slept many of lazy summer afternoons in it, and it is great.

We have a Pawleys Island Hammock at home and love it...It is the rope but it doesn't bother us that bad

I have a cabelas camp hammock. Its kinda like the ENO ones. I slept in it for 2 weeks in Iraq. It was more comfortable and quieter than the cot I had.

I bought mine from this guy on my trip to mex, He has been making hammocks all his life. I also have one that I bought in Brazil last year that I love its hand woven also. I'll dig up some links for ya. If you want to try one out come over. I spent alot of time over the past couple of weeks hanging out in a hammock on the beach with a ice cold cerveza. heres a fun fact- you need 12'to14' between palm trees for the ideal hammock hang.:huggy:
