I've come to you guys as the "Experts" knowing how hard we are on tools around here

I know Mapp gas burns hotter, and is what I use most of the time. I am working on a project for school, and will be needing to redesign these products. I have a few questions, though I have an idea of some of my own answers.

What problems have you found using these types of tools?

What "oddball" stuff have you used these tools for? (this is the most important to me)

Do you use these on the trail? (what for?)

How could they be better?

Has the "Trigger Start" ever failed on you?

Have you ever needed to prop one of these at an awkward angle for prolonged heating?

Let's hear it!! What do you love and hate about these things

Some sort of flex tip would be nice since you can't just prop it up and expect not to get liquid "gas" coming out. Try redesigning the venturi to make it burn hotter...?

And fwiw, without added oxygen (like with a cutting torch setup) mapp gas burns over 1000* colder than propane...

:edit: I can't verify that anywhere but an old welding textbook. Maybe you can test that as well?

Love em for breaking loose rusty bolts. Hard to get them into tight places. Had a bad experience once when I was removing a truck bed once cause I couldn't get the thing remotely close up in there. Besides that, I use them regularly on over torqued lug nuts.

Have used them for patching a radiator, drying out wet wood to start a camp fire, expand stuck on nuts,

Like a rubber hose attachment that you can hook the end of the hose onto a Throttle body or Carb.

I use mine most often to diagnose fuel issues. and hell You can use it to get out of the woods if you have to.

don't own one and don't see any use for it... not even good for a decent solder torch.

However, I do own oxy/acetyelene torch and it works wonders.

MAPP burns colder than acetyelene and actually burns hotter than Propane...

I use one to heat decals when removing them. A larger tip that spreads the heat out would be nice for doing this.

Rob, I used to use my oxy/acetylene torch to light my grill. but it was a pain to drag it out and get it going... more fun than the hand held torch, but more trouble.

That is what they're designed for right? to light the grill

ive beat the hell out of mine for the past 4 years, still works great, I use it to heat bolts to loosen due to corrosion etc.. lighting the grill, taking paint off small parts, killing weeds, etc...
