Hanging a Pole

Not a stripper pole:lol:. I have an old metal pole from an old swingset. I want to hang it between two trees for rope climbs and ring muscleups. I want it about 15' off the ground. Whats the best way to hang it in the trees and make sure it can support the weight of people hanging off it? The pole is about 2.5" around.

I was thinking pipe straps lag bolted into the tree but am concerned that pipe straps won't be strong enough. Any ideas?

Id be concerned that the pole itself wouldnt support the weight. those poles are thin and weak.

Its the ridge beam of the swing seat so its designed to be loaded like this. Its right around 15ft long and has some weight to it.

If you want it stable:
Bore a hole in each tree to put it through?

If its ok to swing around a bit, a couple of lag style eye bolts and some chain either bolted to the end or through it if you like wasting money.

Boring it through both the trees while ideal and certainly stable would be a hell of a lot of work. It does have two 3/4" sized bolt holes on each end that I was thinking about lag bolting straight into each tree. I am worried about over time it pulling it out. I don't mind it moving a bit as long as its secure and wont come down while I'm halfway up the rope.

If its from a swing set the metal will yield and rip at the bolt hole before the lag bolt will pull out.

@Fabrik8 That makes total sense...

I think I'm just gonna scrap the steel pole and hang 2 2x8s with some bracing between them. Should be a lot easier to attach to the trees as well.
