My mom will be 93 in April. She was born and raised in Buena Vista VA. Always talking about the mountains. My sisters and I took her home back in October. A stressful, but wonderful 3 day trip.

My younger sister and I have been discussing a day trip this spring to hanging rock. Been ages since I have been in that area. Any suggestions for lunch in the area? We want to ride around and look at the scenery. Maybe get out and look around. My mom is very unstable. She uses a cane or a wheeled walker. Solid stable ground is a must for walking around.

We will be starting this journey from Colfax. Got any recommendations?

Going into the park proper won't be a problem.
A nice visitor center with some decent views and all mostly flat sidewalks.
The lake/picnic area will be a bit more challenging, but there are paved trails and should have some tables that are accessable.
Getting to the lake should be doable also.
The trails .... well, it is a mountain.

Be aware that the website states the visitor center is closed for renovations and the flush bathrooms are closed for the winter. I would regularly check the website, and wait until everything has reopened.

Two things I would recommend for a 93 yr old that can walk with a cane.

Park in the parking lot near the lake (grey shape), and there is a very short paved walking path through the woods right there that leads down to a fishing pier.

If she can go up and down steps, then walk over to the very large shelter by the lake and walk down to the sandy beach area.

The visitor center is also worth checking out inside and has a nice wrap around deck that you can walk around to the back side for some nice views.
