Anyone had one used one? I was in there today and thinking about getting the 2500 silent one, the one they compare to the Hondas. There about about half the price, just wondering if they last or are as quite as the Hondas.

I was considering a generator for this winter. So I just went online to some generator size calculators to figure out what size generator would be needed to run the Fridge, the Heat, the stove, hot water heater... basics. No TVs, Computers, Microwaves, coffee makers (make coffee on the stove). I was amazed at the size generator you would need. It says a 9K run 14K start. REALLY?!

What size do some of you have and what do you run on it?

^ I was planning on using the one I was looking for power in my slide in truck camper for when I go to places that don't have power so lights, water pump, and probably a small electric heater during winter. Everything you listed is a major power draw that is probably why it's so high. If it was me leave everything off except fridge and heat, when you need hot water turn flip the breaker back on same with stove.

Ya, Stove and Hot water are "on the fence" items, hell, the Heat I could even do without. But I have 3 daughters, a wife and female dog. I'm way out numbered. I would just want the fridge and the occasional hotwater if it's more than 3 days without power. I've got a propane/charcoal burning grill so I don't need the stove.

At the mower shop I worked at they had some small briggs generators compared to the eu2000. Almost as quite but had more fuel consumption.

There was a super nice honda in the for sale section way cheaper than new

It makes a huge difference if your appliances are gas... e.g. we have a gas furnace, so I need a generator only so the system fan and thermostat fan will run... if you have a propane grill, IMO you really don't need a stove you can cook pretty much anything (as long as it isn't like 10 deg outside lol).

The best way to do it IMO is if you have natural gas, buy a normal gas gen, the convert it to tri-fuel and put a quick disconnect on a gas line outside. No worrying about occasional running, keep gas fresh, etc, and will never run out.
Only major issue is that for a decent size gen you need a pretty massive nat gas line for good flow rate. I was getting ready to add one to the back of my house, until I realized that to get the best flow I'd have to upgrade the pipe all teh way back to the meter, otherwise I couldn't run teh furnace at the same time as the generator... irony!

With whatever generator you get if they don't come with an extra set of brushes get a set and attach them to the generator in case you ware the original ones out. Nothing sucks more then going out when the power goes out starting it up and not having any power four days with no power in 15-30 degree weather sucks ask me how I know.

Ive looked at it at every angle and its about impossible to beat the Honda and yamaha gens, but Northern tool has one thats 2500 watt/64 dbs and about $500 thats is very close to the EU2500 Hondas #'s.We had one of the TSC brand gens(champion 3500 watt iirc) on our camper when we went out west and it did well was reasonably quiet and about $300.
