My 91 grand waggy has been running a little weak lately when i get to a light and completely stop im having trouble keeping oil pressure and when i give it a fair amount of gas it sputters out and dies. i think this is one of two things but im very new to all this so anything could be possible. 1) my carborator is opening up early and letting in to much air. 2) something with the thermostat, one thing that leads me to belive this may be it is the fact that my temp gauge always seems to be on the colder side. but like i said any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks
Ben

also a few people have asked if it only happens when its cold and to make it clear it seems to die regardless of how long its been running!!

2bbl? If so, likely a MC2100/2150... hands down the easiest carb ever to work on/tune.

When did you last change the fuel filter? How about the sintered bronze slug in the inlet?

Idle screw settings? Start at 2 turns out and adjust from there

Pull the aircleaner and make sure the choke is functioning correctly. Insure it opens ALL the way when warm... if not, adjust. If electric, make sure you have 12V at the coil...

Looking down the venturis, thumb the butteflies all the way open and notice the squirts from the accel. pump. If weak/sporadic, invest in a $15 rebuild kit!

Still no dice, pull the top cover off and see what's happening when running (hold the float down to keep from getting squirted & have a fire ext. ahndy!). Shine a light into the bowl and see if there's garbage clogging the jets?

Could be temp related as there's a fair amount of "emissions" (temp/vac switches) on something that new.

4bbl?... sorry, no habla 4V! :D

thanks so much for the help!! it is a 2bbl is there any chance some of my sprayers are clogged up??

Dave, are you talking about the actual Idle screw next to the linkage or the Fuel/Air mixture screws on the front?

I was thinking you may have meant the F/A mixture, but then read it again and thought maybe not.

If not, then you may want to adjust those too.

Get it up to Temp, pinch off the Vac Adv. hose (I use a pair of Hemostats). Run one in to lightly bottom out or until the idle stumbles then back out to the highest RPMs, BUT NO FARTHER. then do the same on the other. then repeat.

If you have a Vacuum Guage hook it up to Manifold Vacuum (PCV works) and do the same adjustment watching for the highest vacuum pull.

If you have a hard time finding it then I'd suggest a rebuild and I go for the $30 kit not the $15 personally.
