how do you hard wire the tail lights on a 01 tj? coming from jeep i have 4 wires, but only 3 coming from light.

my guess is that you have the round lights...

the original lights have the reverse lights built in. If you have the round lights, then it does not have this light in it therefore only has 3 wires...

actually have stock lights. somebody cut pigtail off of passenger side before i got it. and i can't get it to work. i got the brake light and running light and backup lights working. but no turn signal. driver side has pigtail, works great.

Can you see the wires on the good side? If not try to carefully cut open the tape covering the wires. That mat help you figure out the side that was cut. One wire may be a ground, may be why there are only 3 wires coming from the light.

i have one wire going to backup light. 2 wires going to stop/running/turn light.

Hmmm...Tag light build in option?

maybe, but I think tag light runs off of tail light bulb

Hmm.. I thought tag light had to burn always on now due to some states BS....

Maybe that's just this POS work bought me to drive, I dont have anything else new enough to compare.

sorry for the delay...maybe this helps?

also...the Right License Lamp is a two wire connector:

1. 18BK/YL - Headlamp Switch Output
2. 20BK - Ground

same BK/YL from the headlamp switch that the taillights get...they're only one when the parking lights are on...

here's what wires i have. violet/black - black/yellow - red/green - and looks like red/brown. i know the violet/black is the backup lights. i have the black/yellow and green/red hooked to my light. stoplight work, backup light works, running lights work. no turn signal though. i've tried switching wires, but no luck.

according to everything I posted, you need the Brown/Red wire for the turn signal...
