I found a deal on a 85 f350 hauler with a 22' bed with a 12000 winch and has a 460 engine anyone used something like this to tow your rig? I dont have much money to work with and found this and it is cheeper then buying a trailer and a truck so thought it may be a good deal for my use. I go to ure but have never been anywere else because I have had no way to get my rig there so reallt just need some advice on what to do,

it is a FORD. nuff said.
with the 460 mpg is going to suck, but it will pull anything and everything and then some. if it was me i would go for it.

Somewhere between awful and terrible.

In theory, well-tuned and empty with a tailwind, it might get 12-14 on the highway. Loaded, expect to be in the 6-8mpg range.

I went to CO one time with a buddy of mine, him in a 94ish F250 with a 460, EFI, and an OD trans, towing his truck on a trailer. He got 8mpg the entire way out. Had another buddy with the same truck, similarly loaded, that used it for construction, got 12mpg all the time, no matter what.

thanks for the info

The E-250 van I used to tow with was a carbed 460, and i stayed in the 4 barrel, I got an average or 8-9. I miss it.

Having a hauler will net you many friends. Also consider you could haul your Jeep and pull a camper too!

It will be a good truck, but look for about 8mpg and it will slow down going up hill. Long steep hills may get down to 40mph when towing.

LoMod's F250 (4x2) w/ 460 & non-OD auto of similar vintage got (IIRC) about 5-6mpg with Bruisers current bed camper pulling a 2200# trailer (now mine) and a lightly modified YJ...

As said, would pull a house and anything else you could fit...

Seems like you might be able to eek another mpg or 2 out of it with an ultra tuned FI setup?

expect anywhere from 6-10 mpg, depending on the weight of your rig and how (un)aerodynamic it is.
