ok so I have a 78 CJ 5 with an amc 360 in it. the 2 coolant hoses that run to the heater core through the firewall keep wanting to leak. i've replaced the hoses and clamps and it still has a steady drip. I know its not the heater core itself because I dont get any coolant inside the tub, it just leaks on the engine side of the firewall. Can I just cap off the ends where the hose goes into the motor or just run 1 hose as a "recirc" hose to the 2 points? I don't use the heater (its broken) and its only a trail rig for warmer weather.

yep
Or put a little Black RTV around the Copper piping then slide the rubber hose on. could make it a bitch to remove later on. But you can certainly just run a hose and bypass the heater core.

cool. thanks man. I figured I could do that but wanted to run it by somebody else first.

That's my plan I believe. How does the "heater/blower" come out? I looked at it very briefly today but it looks like there's a bunch of screws attached from the back side.

3/4.

The entire heater box can be removed by pulling about 6 nuts from the firewall on the engine bay side. Then disconnect the cables, wires, and vent tubes.

Sounds easy enough. Like I said I just briefly checked it out. What do you guys do with the cowl vent? Just run it?
